My ride seems to be a lot more rough than it used to be. I was thinking that I might have worn out shocks or springs. I have an 04 Sport AT, and I don't really know about all of the components that go into the ride comfort. I want to lower the car pretty soon on some Tein S tech springs, but I'm not really sure if I should if my shocks are worn out. I searched and read the thread about coilovers/springs and other basic suspension info and I gathered that my car has a shock/spring combo. How do I know if my springs are bad or if my shock is bad?

How many Miles on your stock ones...if it's more than 60K..you might as well put some Koni's or something in if you are doing a spring install....

By 60K they are getting weak

My car just hit 70,000 last night so it is probably time to replace the shocks too. My car doesn't drive like that yet Easy. Which Koni shocks do you recommend?

Koni yellows are a good low cost shock.....They have been on sale a few places lately less than $700 for all 4

If you are past 50k miles..... its time. Im at 75k and still havent changed them.

Another point to consider is the condition/age of your tires. If they are worn, they will ride rough. New quality tires on a car can do wonders for the ride quality. I've seen that time and again....take a crappy riding used/old car. Put some new rubber on it and wow...you'll feel like you're riding on air.

If however you are bouncing and crashing over bumps, suspension may be the culprit. And the condition of the roads you frequent can cause early wear on shocks. Smooth road/highway driving can prolonge their life.

I have brand new tires, maybe 5k miles on them if that. The reason I think that its my shocks is that bumps seem much more intense everytime I go over them. Also sometimes I hear a weird "bouncing" sound after a bump as if my spring continues to taper off its vibration. A friend that was in my car said he heard the sound and thought it could be an endlink, sway bar or my shocks; kind of a wide variety of parts all relating to my suspension. Now I guess it's time to break out the credit card...

I have a 06 AT at 98000 miles and need to replace the rear shocks. What would you recommend for just daily driving.

Replace all 4 at the same time....

You could go with Bilstein or Koni or other OEM equivalent.... if you plan on staying stock you have lots of choices

You could get some decent entry level coilovers for not that much more and get a nicer look
