those were your standard issue Volks i believe, unless they changed them. And at over a grand per wheel, I wouldn't do these on a daily driver, I'd go with something a bit more resilient. (like I have room to talk though )

i love HRE wheels, if I had the money to spend on them. You can really make a custom wheel/offset, and i think they look sweet.

downside of course is the crazy price.
i found these in the aftermarket rim thread:

the black car is cortc's
the white is konig

Actually, if you wanted custom wheels/offset I would go with these guys:

www.ccwheel.com

They're cheaper, lighter, stronger, and have true racing cred (a lot of the 7 guys run them) and I think they look equally killer. I spoke with these guys a while back when my rim pursuit first started back in 05, they were totally willing to work with me, very helpful over the phone, answered a million questions etc. I've seen a handful of sets in person and they're stunning, absolutely gorgeous.

Here is a style they have called the classic, I came VERY close to getting these, but it was just too much money at the time.

These are my faves, I'm a sucker for a clean 5 spoke

one more style I drooled over:

I'd love to see these on an 8 someday, who knows maybe a few years down the road if I still have my car and I'm tired of my Work's I may take the plunge.

Have you looked at iForged wheels? They look sweet and will probably run you a lot less.

There is a group buy on them over at the Club Lexus forum.

I looked at HRE's before I bought my OZs. Wasn't that crazy about the styles they had though and you don't have to pay that much to get 3 piece forged wheels. I ended up at about $900 a wheel for my OZ's for 8.5/9.5 19".

Everyone I've talked to who really knows what they are doing said that damage to the wheels from the road surface is more of an issue with heavier cars and no so much an issue with something that weights what an RX8 does.

Does that white RX8 have HRE's wrapped with Hankook's? You think you might be able to afford a better performing tire if your spending 5k on wheels.
