I'm back! Don't get too excited!
I was just wondering about the rims. The sevas s 55 in the pic below. The front ones are about 25 lbs and teh back are about 28ish. Any idea how to figure out how much it'll slow the car down? I am gettin them either way. But i'm just curious.
Thanks

If your into bling and don't care about performance, no problem.

its good to be back. lol. anyways. yes i left. and rotaryp7, wat are u talking about. i care about performance but i like them like a lot lol. so like i mean i'm not like planning on going to the track or anything for now but is it still gonne be fast? i honestly don't know wat im doing. as obvious as that is, i had to say it. anyways... is there anyway to get those rims and keep it at the stock weight? like the whole car? this guy i know, had a 350z and he took out all the insulation and it was lighter i guess. tehn again he also flipped 2 350's and now has a third. effing nut!! :-)

It's the rotating mass that you are adding to. Static mass it wouldn't make much difference. It will decrease acceleration. 1 pound of rotating mass is equal to or greater than 10 pounds of static mass. This would be like adding a 220 person in the passenger seat.

- Our stockers are 22.5lbs, not 21.5lbs
- 1lbs of rotating mass is about 3lbs of static mass, not 10lbs
So IF I'm right, your new and heavier wheels would feel like a 50lbs weight in your trunk, instead of a burly 220lbs man in your passenger seat

well it's obvious as everyone else said. You are adding weight in all the wrong places ( not that it's good to add any weight). The car will not be AS good as stock but it won't feel like you are driving a new mustang around either.

I went from 26 lbs rims to 17 lbs rims. There was a difference, but I wouldn't say it was hugely significant. I noticed the advantage mostly in changing lanes or anything dealing with turning the wheels. Not so much for acceleration but I didn't time runs or anything that would verify my butt dyno.

Decent article that goes into details for you.

ok i understand that i will be adding weight to it. but how do u like figure out how much it'll slow it down or that whole part. can somone explain that?
also i was looking at other rims. and i found these two. and somoen told me they're fake or somethign? no idea. anyone know wat they are? like namewise?
and is that the borla exhaust for the 8??
thanks

If you are looking for rims that are lightweight and have the bling factor like the ones in your sig, I would look at JLine, Volk, Advan, HRE, and CCW. These rims won't be the lightest out there, but they will weight significantly less than the ones in your sig. If you want a super lightweight wheel then Gram Lights are good, and so are Enkei's Racing Line, Advan also makes some nice wheels that are really light, like the RGII and RS. Also SSR is a good choice for light wheels that look good.
As to the wheels effect on performance, it can be debated over and over, but there is no definitive answer that says 1lb of Rotational Mass = XXlbs of Static Mass. What can be said is that heavier wheels will make the suspension, brakes and engine work harder. Since the RX-8 has very little torque, it is hard enough to accelerate fast with the stock wheels, so adding heavy wheels will only make it go slower.
Just think about spinning a weight on the end of a string (like a helicopter). Now if the weight is 5 pounds it is going to take more effort to spin it, whereas if it is 3 lbs it will be easier for you to spin it, allowing you to get to a certain speed faster. The same applies for wheels. Not to mention, it will be easier to slow down with lighter wheels, and the suspension will work much better, because it doesn't have to control all that extra weight.

the wheels you posted are, in order, The Tenzo DC-6, Then the Sportmax 006. And yes that is the borla exhaust for the RX-8 in the third pic.
