Just can't decide on the shocks...
With my eibachs still under my couch...
I really can't decide which to choose between Koni's and Tokico's.
I read many reviews, and researched on prices as well.
It seems like I can get Tokico's cheaper, but I really don't know which to choose.
Some people say either or is better, but I haven't seen any comparison reviews between the two. Any feedbacks?

For what its worth you can get the remote adjusters for the Tokicos. I'm waiting to see the DPE (forum sponsor) review of the Tokicos though. I'm torn between the two as well.

I hope they hurry up because the factory shocks sure do suck at 34,000 miles.

Both are great, and will be a huge improvement over stock... but with the Tokiko's you can change the shock settings without having to take the shocks out of the car. What are the odds you can adjust the screw on the Koni rears to match your spring for the kind of ride you like... before even installing them on your car. Get ready to take them out again... or just keep driving around not knowing what a different dampening setting would feel like.
Oh ya... and the Tokiko's adjust the compression and rebound strokes. I think the Koni's only adjust the rebound.

yeah im actually trying to change the shocks before i go on sow this weekend.
yeah i knew about the adjustments, i also heard konis has more adjustment capabilities besides the fact that its really a bitch to change them.

IMO the Tokicos rock. I use them for around town, autox and track. Being able to adjust them from soft street setting to full-stiff for the track or autox in about 5 minutes is a major advantage. Also being able to fine-tune between runs is a big one.
I originally got these just for high-speed stability on the track, but found that they also cut down on body roll substantially. (I have stock springs and sways.)

It really comes down to how serious you are. If you want to go fast on the track and autoX buy the konis. At the SCCA solo natl championships there was only one car to my knowledge on the Tokicos, he was 15th, every other RX8 was on Konis. If you just want a shock you can play on occasionally and still be able to soften it up on the street buy the Tokico.
imho the Tokico is not even in the same league as the Koni.

I just did my first autox season on the Tokico D-Specs. Yah the adjust with the cables was cool, I installed the cables in the front and the rear. The fronts were a little hard to get to but the cables helped that. The car had a nice firm ride on soft and was noticeably stiffer on the full hard setting.
The last autox of the year KC took my car out for runs and said it was soft. If I wanted to get another half sec. on the autox course I should go with the Koni sports (Yellow).
That’s all I needed to hear, the Tokico's are coming out tomorrow and in go the Koni yellows. Can anyone use four Tokico D-Spec adjusting cables??

when you guys are talking about tokico's your talking about the mazdaspeed shocks right? blue ones? if so, how do you adjust them, i have them along with tein stech springs.

I have the cables for the back. The front is a little tight with the stock tower brace - I have to loosen the brace to get the adjusting tool in there. If I get the Mazdaspeed tower brace or another "ring" type brace that doesn't cover the top of the shock that'll solve it.

very happy. great for street.. have not got on track yet. hope it is not two much longer... the only thing i might change is to raise the rear about .25 of an inch...
btw, the stock adjusters work fine with the greddy front strut.

I heard that once you set the rear shocks there really isn't any need to change the adjustments.
So set the Koni's below the full stiff and you will be set for life.
I finally decided to go all the way and went with KW Variant 3 Coilovers.

Well I think that does it, knowing this + the endorsement of most all of the autocrossers puts me squarely in the Koni camp.

Good choice Baron, but you loose the convience of cable adjustments.
For an extra few dollars you can buy the Tocico cables and have the shop adjust the nut on the end to fit the Konis. My guess is 90 to $120 to modify the cables.
