Question Kumho Ecsta SPT Tires?

Anyone try these tires out yet? I'm looking for good tires with reduced noise but good summer performance. These review pretty good but didn't know if anyone had pictures of it or opinions on them. Thanks,

they're ok tires. I wouldn't call them performance tires.

my only gripe is that they develop flat spots after cooling down. So every morning the first few miles the car rides bumpy till they warm up and get rounded again.

Some people don't have this issue, others like me do. Maybe luck of the draw. I don't plan on purchasing again.

would you recommend any alternatives that would fit the stock rims?

I liked the goodyear F1's, but they were pricey.

I also have tried the General UHP tires. They were hard, and also not performance tires (they feel the same as the ESTA to me), and also cheap tires... no flat spots on them.

I had the Kumho MX tires, loved them.

Have you looked into Toyo T1R's? I have them now....

I think the Ecsta ASX's (the uhp all-season version) do the same as I get the same thing you describe. I couldn't figure out was going on but that it had something to do with the cold tire. The car would be slightly jittery and like it was on square tires (especially in freezing temps) but would smooth after miles at speed. I thought I just wasn't used to the effect of colder temps on tires having moved from much hotter climate the same time I installed these tires. Maybe this is what I was experiencing. Other than that the ASX's are good all-seasons for the money which performed decent in the snow. I will get something different next time as the cold tire problem annoys me more and more.

I have these tires and mine do not get flat spots. They aren't bad IMO. Not too pricey, good DD tires, good wet performance. They are quieter than my stockers. Then again, if you have aftermarket exhaust, you can't hear it anyway. I heard they do wear fast however. Doesn't affect me much though because I don't put many miles on my car.

I looked at them... They look nice... How is the noise on them? I haven't priced them yet but if they fit the stock rims I'm all for it. I guess that other guy had a point with the exhaust comment on it not really mattering. My all season tires got about 5k miles left of tread and I wanna go ahead and get my summer tires cause it usually doesn't get cold where I'm from til december-feb.

^^^ negative ghost rider.

245 / 40 / 18 is what you want for our wheels. Kumho MX's are available in that size but I'll warn you now; those tires don't last too long with agressive driving.s

SPT is what you want. The MX's wear real fast.

Great for the track.

yeah, I probably won't buy another set of MX's although they were GREAT tires with great grip.

Toyo T1R's are a great performance tire with pretty good tread life

i did a report on kumho mx versus kumho spt

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-wheels-tires-brakes-suspension-55/kumho-mx-kumho-spt-report-152986/

i got almost 15K miles out of the MXs, including a few autoxs and 6 sessions at laguna seca. they had excellent grip even after the steel belts started coming out. (recommend replacing before then!)

after a few more miles on the SPT, the softer sidewalls give a smoother ride but the maximum grip is definitely less than even the worn MXs.

the SPT also shimmy around a lot more on a steel deck bridge i cross 10 times a week.

ive been told the SPT is an exceptionally good autocross rain tire.

if i was doing it again, id get the MX and deal with the mediocre wet traction.

I was looking at the Falkens as well... There seems to be a consensus on the Toyo T1Rs though. No tracking for me. Mostly just street driving. Anyone know the specific size that would fit a stock 04 oem?

I have a set of those tires on my car(SPT's). Personally I think they are great tires. Very low road noise, smooth ride, decently priced. I wouldnt track them but as for as daily driving I have had no issues and would purchase again.

SPT's are a great deal if you are on a budget. T1R's are MUCH more expensive, but ya gotta pay to play. For a daily driven car, I liked the SPT's a bit. Good tire in the rain for sure, great price. I'd give them a thumbs up especially over stock.
