Largest Wheels?

You don't want staggered wheels, read this thread:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-wheels-tires-brakes-suspension-55/so-you-think-staggered-tires-wheels-great-idea-50607/
Also, just so you know, the larger the wheels the slower your car will accelerate, but you will get better fuel economy and smoother ride.
The wider the wheel is the worse your fuel economy however you might be able to corner faster though some say wider wheels upset the stock suspension while others say it doesn't.
Now how many more posts before someone tells you to search. Oh whoops.

Staggered wheels are not as bad as they are made out to be. Depending on what else is done to the car it can be a much better setup.
You should have no problem getting 10's to fit on the back, not sure about larger than that. I know 9.5 is ok on the front, dunno about 10's though.

Sorry my post wasn't quite as detailed as it was in my head :P Yeah we aren't building a street car. It will use about 5-8 gallons of C12 VP for an hour practice session that consists of about 10 -14 laps. The staggared setup is to get more grip in the rear of the car, and the skinnier fronts are mostly due to frame clearance on the wheel/tire. We just got our bare chassis today, and I am sure that with some fender rolling on her, we will be able to get a 10 up front, and maybe a 12 in the rear. I would like to run at least an 11.5 rear.
I was just looking to see if maybe anyone that hit the tracks in theirs had found a wide wheels setup that fit well.
And I did search, but it's hard to narrow anything down with a search like "widest wheels" etc. It didn't yield much in form of results :D I might be new to this forum, but not new to RX-7 forums :D
Thanks for the input though. I will post up what I can fit if I don't find anyone with super side stuff here.

might have better luck in the Competition section, ask the ? but tell them your plans..
like hp, shocks. give them a hint of what you are trying to do with the car..
good luck.

i dont know about 11" in the rear but i know you can do 10.5 in the front and rear with no rubbing and a 285 30 18.... with a 35 offset you should be able to get away with shave or a perfect fender rolling...with a 30 offset you need to pull a little bit to make it fit... and youll need at least 2.5 front and rear camber..for the 35 offset and around 3 camber front for the +30 offset .hope that helps you enough... just make sure you do the caster....if not its going to rub against the back of the wheel well.. my caster is at 8.4 fronts...i dont know if thats good or bad but the car handels pretty nicely... hope the info helped...

I agree, it will be close but with the proper offset 10.5" wheels should be able to fit with 285 tires, the rear fender lip extension will most likely need to be flattened and the front tires might rub the inner well at full lock steering, wearing through the front fender liner will be an issue if you go super low on ride height, otherwise flairing shouldn't be necessary
I rubbed the unmodified rear lip with 9.5" wheels @ 38mm offset and a 265 tire so I kind of disagree with Gene's offsets above

when i had my 9.5s in the rear with a 35 i rubbed a lot... but i do have pics somewhere i can dig up with the 10.5s with a 30 offset front and rear so you can see how it actually fits... with 35 offset your cutting it close to the shock body and i dont think you can run anything higher..its just that i tried the enkie nto3m's in a 10.5 with a 30 offset and it fit rather nicely...but my fenders are rolled and pulled front and rear...like i said..a lot of modification would be needed. i just dont like the look of sunken in wheels like honda's.. i go for the flush look i guess..
even so when i do run the 9.5's all around now on my wheels.. i toss in a 10mm spacer to drop it to a 9.5 with a 25 offset... and thats what im looking for.. on both sets of rims i have 285 tires so its more of what you would want... 9.5's with 285 feels better than on the 10.5 tho.. anyways...hope the info helped.
easy route.. go 10's with a 42 or 43 offset..you can get away with camber only almost..depending on what alignment setup. and how aggressive you make it..

Thanks for the info guys. The car is a purpose built drift car. Unfortunately I am not allowed to discuss alot of the car specs or build yet until certain contracts and meetings are finalized. I can say that it will be on custom valved Tein coilovers with JIC adjustable components along side them. I am looking to have as much rubber in the rear of the car as possible though. They make up to a 315 width tire in the tire and that's what I'd like to run. If it isn't feasible, then we will go with the 275/35R18 which is the next smaller size. The 315 can run on an 11.5, but not sure if I could get it to stretch onto a 12" wheel, but I think I can get it to fit. The 275 will run on an 11 though I think. On the FD we ran 18X10.5 with a 265/35R18 so I am sure I can get a 275 on an 11. I am a big fan of low offset wheels, so I am going to try to run the lowest offset I can.
I was looking through TeamRX8's thread on getting the new parts, and saw your suspension travel pic in the front. Looks like I should be able to get a 10 in the front with some 235/40R18's. We have even thrown around the idea of running 17's on the front. We did this on the FD we built, and it worked out really well.
There will be no fender liners in it. The chassis is bare right now with nothing in it. Only necessary parts will be reinstalled. Nothing luxury related. Pure race car.
I'm pretty excited about this project. This is going to be really fun to build. I am definately anxious about learning more about this chassis, and it's capabilities. :D
