power coating is a paint method where you coat the rims with the paint powder and then bake it on. its supposedly better, but the set i bought that had been poweder coated is chipping off. however, he didnt strip the wheel first so i think that may have something to do with it.

i bought new wheels and want them painted black. the shop i called to inquire about powder coating/painting said they dont do powder coating but what they will do is use the current finish of the wheel as a primer, sand some of the color off, paint the wheel black or gunmetal (bake it), then put on a clear coat . they obviously won't guarantee chipping, flaking, etc. but for $150/wheel, i dont want to spend all that $$ and have it look like crap in the near future. is this a dumb idea?? kelly, how much did they charge you? does your wheel look bad now??

i bought them from someone who already had them powder coated, but theres another thread that was saying $50-$70/wheel. i wouldnt say it looks good, theres definately a large chip where the stock color is coming though, but i dont notice it anymore.

yeah i was the one who started the thread for $50-$70 per wheel. I found a great powder coating association of some sorts online listing all their members by state. there's some useful info on the link. check it out
