looking for a strong 17 inch rim
Hi
One of my OEM rims seems bent (won't balance, some vibration at highway speeds), and since I plan on autocrossing my new RX8 - I'm seriously considering saving my OEM rims for autocross and getting a set of 17" rims, preferably something strong that will stand up better to road hazards.
I'm thinking 17x7 - 17x8 - I'd rather they weren't boat anchors, but since most of my performance driving is on the autocross course I'm not looking for super wide or super light.
Can someone recommend brands and models that would be stronger than typical cast wheels - preferably with first hand experience?
I've searched - but strength doesn't seem to come up unless someone is talking about the latest unobtanium 18x9.5 track wheels![Wink](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Thanks

Just remember this...
Pick two:
Strong, Light, Cheap.
As far as specifics, I couldn't even begin to make any recommendations though forged are usually stronger than cast (or so I'm told).

If you're going for 17s and you get a higher profile tire, you will probably be less likely to damage the rims through normal driving because the tires will be able to cushion impacts better. I drove a couple of winters on inexpensive Kosei 17"ers in potholed Chicagoland without any issues whatsoever.

^^^^ thoose arent bad and seem to fit his the discription, if not u can look into some rota's, ive heard storys of rotas breaking and i honestly wouldnt let it keep me from buying another set, ive had 2-3 sets in previous cars and never game me trouble and its pothole land where im from, if u go with a really low profile tire than ur chances of damaging the wheel is pretty good...
