Maximum width for stock rims
Hi Everyone,
First of all my apologies if this question was already asked, I did browse around but being a busy week couldnt wade through all of the previous threads.
Due to the previous owner not rotating the tires properly I have worn out fronts now (previously rears). I am planning to put new tires on the car, but the rears are have alot of thread left.
So my questions:
1. Can I mix different brands and just replace two tires, put them in the rear and rotate the current rears to the front?
2. What is maximum width the tire can be (rear or front) on stock rims without any illeffects (just for looks)
3. What are some good brands/types to look for when buying new ones
Again, I am a new RX owner with minimal tire/rim knowledge, and I do apologize for taking your time by asking questions which might be already answered. All help is much appreciated.
Thanks!

1. you can put different tires on all 4 corners. doesnt mean you should. you want the exact same handling characteristics on all 4 corners.
2. the max i've heard of (and what i have on my car) are 245s
3. i am running toyo proxes t1rs. havent really had the chance to really test them out. they do work though. :P

what width you *can* mount on a given wheel is not the same as what you *should* mount on a given wheel. there are AutoXers who've mounted 275 tires on 8" rims, but that comes with many drivability compromises (on top of the fact that many installers simply can't/won't try to attempt it). 245 is probably the reasonable limit. i've got 245/35 race tires on my stock rims.

Keep fronts well threaded, even if it cost you more.
Bigger width will increase fuel consumption.
245/35/18 are pretty common
There are lots of posts on this, so if you are so busy you couldn't find them, then I advise you wait on changing your tyre spec until you are not very busy, because there lots of other things you should be aware of that are associated with changing stock tyre spec. (like tyre pressure, effects of staggering (which is best rear biased or front biased), mileage and speed errors, some people have had problems with their traction control going haywire.
Bottom line, either buy stock spec or make time and wade through the posts. It will be well worth it.

Thank again for your input, I am kind of decided on KUMHO ASX 245/40/18 all weather tires for my RX8's rear and move the factory tires in the rear to the front. I have read alot of good reviews on the KUMHO tires and when I checked discounttire.com all the reviews for these tires were written by RX8 owners. Hope I am making a good choice. You guys are awesome!
