Mazda spare tire kit for RX-8
I am looking at purchasing a RX-8 but am bothered by two things - whether it will drive well in winter (with winter tires due to great deal of snow) and the space needed to install the spare tire (hate the inflatable kit).
Is there a way to install the spare tire underneath the car (like some trucks have)? This would save space in the truck should I need it.
Thanks for any suggestions.

8's don't do good in the snow unless you have snow tires but even then I would not chance it. Just wait till the snow comes and you'll see all kinds of therads on this and people saying don't do it its not worth it look what happen to my 8.
No. Cars too low. Trunk or AAA lol

And I recently found out that a full-size spare won't fit the spare tire trunk mount, which is a disappointment.
I garage my 8 from November first through the end of February and drive my old Explorer in winter. Dom's right, not worth chancing it.

The RX-8 is totally drivable in the winter. Good snow tires is a must. Do a search in this forum and you'll find plenty of discussions on snow tire selection.
You can buy an OEM spare tire kit for the car. It is bolted to the inside of the trunk, where the Bose amplifier is.
