Member's opinions on wheels

I am in the process of buying a Shinka that is in need of a new set of wheels. No, the special edition wheels are not equipped. It is the 05, Black Cherry color.

I'm planning on getting 17x9.5 solid black rims, looking for light weight. I'd consider powder coating stock wheels, but that doesn't help with the weight. If you have an opinion please share as far as:

Sacrificing the inch in diameter for weight:

Make and model's that come to mind that would look good on this car (solid black or not):

Overall bang for your buck wheels that you would consider buying if you were me (I wish the RPF1's came in black):

Thanks

just curious as to why you'd drop down to 17. i'm guessing for weight reduction? do you autox or have any other performance needs?

i think the SBC finish from enkei's rpf1 is more like a black chrome iirc.
that may look sweet on your ride. however, its a lil chubbier than the regular rpf1.
you can always powder coat those.

also consider some SSr's sp1, workmeister wheels...both got that black five spoke with polished lip look. awesome to say the least...and light too.

if color doesn't matter as you can and will most likely powder coat them...
then i just recently special order a set of 17X9.5 +38 enkei rpf1 thru autornd from rishie. you can run 275/40/17 which will reduce ground clearance by 1/3 of an inch...but thats not too bad.

Thanks for the input.
I am looking to drop down to 17s for weight and price. I'd like to keep it under 2000 for wheels and tires, so like 1200 for wheels, mainly because there are so many other things I'd like to mod. Ideas?

The 18 x 9.5 +45 Enkei RPF1 weighs 17 lbs and you can get a set shipped for around $1200, but they're silver

since you asked for an opinion, IMO black wheels will look like sh-t, the contrast of silver will look better x infinity

just what color is his car?
imo, red and black will match up well. factory color theme is already red on black, or red on red/blk...so stick with red/blk if you have a red car.

although some may not like the look...i guess it really depends what black you use and who's seeing it.

oh...ok.
black cherry shiinka eh? hmmm...can't tell you if the offset of the different blacks will look just fabulous together.
can't tell you for sure...but i think the SBC from enkei might look sick on the bc shiinka.

some photoshop please...

I too would recommend the Enkei. But stick with 18", bright finish and five spoke, the way a Shinka is supposed to look.

Are these really 17 lbs? I'm gonna pick up a set of these in a month or two. i've heard a lot of different weights for these and i saw 18 something pounds on Enkei's web site. Anyone want to confirm the weight with a link? Thanks.

Thanks for the input again. I was also thinking 17x9.5 in black because I'd hate to go smaller and get a bright shine wheel. 18's look right on the 8. 17's black blend in with the tire better making the whole wheel arrangement look giving me a lighter weight and lower price. You guys think so as well?

I would have to agree that 18's look better, but is the price/weight jump worth it? I assume most of you would think yes. Anyone with 17's want to add their input?

Oh, and no, I couldn't bring myself to powder coat any set of rims black besides the stock set.

jump into some 5zigens - best bang for your buck and not all that expensive. of course i might be a little bias.

O.Z. Ultraleggera is another option for a black lightweight wheel. Thought about them myself.

anyone else have a reliable weight on these?

Here you go, 17.4 pounds straight from Goodwin Racing. I think Brian was the first to fit these to an RX-8 too.

The 5Zigen FN01C's come in black, are very cheap (160 each new) and come in a 17X9 +35 offset. If you pair a decent set of street tires like the 255/40/17 Faken RT615 you should be able to get a set of wheels/tires for under $1300 shipped.

$8,000 wheels on a $20,000 car? Real practical. I saw a set on someone's M400 Noble recently, they are amazing. I think the 18X9.5's were 14 pounds.

Yeah, what he said, and wouldn't one good sized pot hole do you in? I can't imagine those things taking impact too well -- they seem like track only wheels.

Are you kidding about the price??? I see people with turbos and all kinds of mods well over 15K.... I have had two sets and they are a really nice wheel. You wont see to many of them on the road... They also come with a life time warranty. I live in Vegas and we have the worst roads in the country and I have never had an issue.
