Michelins and Dry Rot
Thank God I don't have them on my RX8, but a 3 year old set of Michelin LTRs on my 1997 Ram 1500 with about 10K miles on them are **** up because the beads have dry rotted. I go out to use the read beast to haul some wood and the left rear is flat. Flat flat, like not only is there no air, there is a distinct appearance of a vacuum. Not unlike President Obama's speeches. A little internet google-fu and sure enough, the big M had a known problem with dry rot on the sidewalls, especially at the bead. Michelin, of course, blames it on owner error, like, oh, driving the car with the tires on, over inflation, underinflation, or even just plain inflation.
That's $800 down the ******* tubes; needless to say, I'm glad it happened while the truck was parked, not while I was driving it. Or my son. My ex, well, not so much, but you can't have everything.
All I can say is beware of Michelin. That Fat White ****** on those commercials better sleep with his eyes open.

Yeah many people fawn over Michilens but honestly having dealt with them a on a few Mercedes and an Acura MDX, I am not impressed. The MDX's Michelins have signs of dry rot already. One of our local guys had Pilot Sport 2's on his RX-8 and hated them.

I don't see any indication in the Tire Rack reviews that Michelin has any more rot issues than any other tires reviewed. I've used Michelins for many many years, and have had no more rot issues than any other tire, but have had better wear and performance. UV (sun) and ozone (smog) exposure are the primary contributors to tire rot.
I collect classic european cars, and my current vehicles still have their original factory Michelins. My 1982's tires show very minimal cracking, and my 1988's tires still look new. Miraculously, my 1960's 51 year old Michelin 165x400 tires, although showing some moderate cracks, still hold air as well as my new tires on the RX-8, and were still being driven regularly up until I bought the car 9 years ago.
