Myth: Hawk HP Plus pads eat rotors.

Been tracking the car for 12 months now, with 9 events logged for the year.

Tracks have been Sebring, Moroso and Homestead, run at an HPDE 3 pace.

I have Hawk HP Plus pads on the car front and rear all of the time. I get about 3 to 4 track days out of a set. The pads don't come off after track days as they resume full daily driving duties.

Front Rotors

Stock measurement from a new rotor in my garage: A shade over +/- 24.3ish mm
Actual measuremet from 13 month old rotor on car: +/- 24mm
Minimum thickness stamped on back of rotor: 22mm

Rear Rotors

Stock measurement from a new rotor in my garage: 18mm
Stock measurement from 13 month old rotor on car: pretty much 18mm, measuring caliper just piches less tight on the old rotor compared to the new rotor at the same reading.
Minimum thickness stamped on back of rotor: 16mm

I haven't heard that HP Plus is hard on rotors.

Hawk Blues are the ones that will chew them up when used cold (on the street).

Oh I've read this statement about Hawk HP Plus on boards ranging from Subie to Saab to here. And yes, a Hawk blue should only be run in its operating temp range.

But yes, I've read the "Yo! Don't get Hawks bro cuz they eat thru rotorzzzzzzz!" many a time. Even worse is when the specific Hawk pad compound is not even mentioned.

So how does you like the pads overall?

Lots of brake dust?

How loud are the pads?

Good news for me because I just fitted them all round - first track day today and they came through with flying colours .
The "increased rotor wear" myth could be from the Hawk website as they actually state that in the description .

Enough pad to run quickly at the track without fade, but not enough pad to run at full race pace (suits my needs for HPDE on street tires). Overkill pad for street use.

Plenty of dust.

Quiet for the most part. Only make noise when temps drop below 60 outside.

A note on the dust from these pads - It washes straight off with a hose . Have not been able to do that with other pad material . Could be that the dust was from just one days use which meant it did not stick I guess ....

I didn't think they ate rotors, I just didn't like how little temp they could take.

I have Hawk HP+ pads all the way around.

3 things about these pads,

1. They sqeeeeel like mad.
2. They leave a **** load of brake dust (I clean my wheels everyday now).
3. They feel the same as MazdaSpeed pads and with MazdaSpeed pads you dont get 1. & 2. So I'm going back to MS pads soon. Real soon.

There's a difference between brake feel and the ability of a brake pad to sustain heat without fade. I haven't tried the MS pads at the track- perhaps they are comparable. The Cobalt Friction GT Sport pads interest me as well. From what I've read, they provide lots of feel as well as sustainability.

Of course a high performance pad is going to wilt before the OEM on the street.
