nail in a tire..what do i do?
OK. So i have about 11k miles on the OE tires and I found a nail in one of them the other day.. I haven't driven my car around since then..but the nail is close to the side wall, hence a new tire will be needed.
Do replace the 1 tire w/the nail or get a pair? BTW, how long do the OE tires last for?
Thanks, in advance

Check the For Sale section of the forum - I know a couple of people here have been able to buy an entire set of slightly used OEM tires from people who are upgrading their wheels or tires, cost for the entire set was about the same as 1 new tire! I picked up a nail last month, right on the shoulder of the tire, so it was ruined. I found a forum member in Canada who bought an entire used set when he had the same problem a month prior - he used one tire, had 3 left. He sold me 1 slightly used OEM tire for his cost, $125 Cdn, about $90 US.

Thanks for the info..i've been trying to buy from a fellow forum member as well but the only ones available want to sell by the set. So i guess getting 1 new tire is ok, and not the pair?
And yes, $300 for one tire is a lot of $$$$!!!!

That's why I was happier about getting a used tire - the wear was a bit closer to what's on the car now. Even then, I put the "new" tire on the front and will not rotate them to the back.
Why not buy the used set (for about the price of 1 new tire), mount the 1 tire you need, maybe even keep one as a spare (or mount 2 and keep your one older good tire as a spare), then sell off the single tires that you don't use? As you can see from me, the other guy I mentioned, and yourself, there's a definite market for single OEM tires around here! If I hadn't been able to buy the single used tire, then I would have bought the set and sold the ones I didn't need as singles.

Gordon
