Need advice from someone with wheel and tire experience

I am starting to think down the road to when I will replace my wheels and tires. I want to stick with 18's, but I want to go wider than the stock wheels. Also, my wheels/tires are inset a bit from the wheel well, and I want the new ones to at least be flush or maybe just slightly outside of the wheel well (nothing as extreme as a lowrider or anything). Can anyone recommend a width that they have used to achieve this effect? Also, do I need to be considering different offsets to get the desired effect, or will a wider wheel do it? I am completely clueless about what offset is. Thanks

9.5" in the back with a 40mm offset.

I have 19" on my car & my rims & tires are perfectly flush with the outside on the wheel well. For 18" I would recommend 18" x 8.5" with a +35/+30 mm offset on the front with a 245/40/18 & the rear go with a 18 x 9.5" with a +35mm offset with a 275/35/18 tire. Don't lower the car more than 1" & you should be fine (no rubbing).

Or keep the same size wheel. You don't need wider wheels. The slightly wider tires on the stock size is your best bet. 245/40x18 Tires is all you need.

Thanks for the suggestions. While we are at it, can someone explain what offset means? I don't want to just repeat what someone said when I go to get my wheels and tires. I want to know what I am talking about.

offset is where (plus or minus) the wheel mounts to the hub...and 0 offset is dead center of the wheel +35 offset is 35mm out (closer to teh outside of the car) -35mm offset is 35mm in (closer to the hub) :D

i believe teh stock rims are =50mm offset...but don't quote me.

hope that made sense
