New Brake Pads Already?!!!
I'm taking my car in for its 30K checkup and think I oughta mention to them that when in reverse the brakes are squealing a bit (no indication on the computer). Isn't it awfully early for new brake pads even tho I know Mazda is putting in cheaper pads to begin with?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Brake pad wear is almost totally dependent on driving style and pad compound.
I wore a set of OEM front pads out in a weekend.......
Most people will get 30 to 45K from stock front pads driving "normally"
Rear pads shouldn't be gone in that mileage..they should last 60K or so
Squealing doesn't indicate worn out pads always...
If the rears are gone that quick...the calipers could be sticky.....they should be checked. If they are dragging they will wear much more quickly, and your rotors will likely be blue in color from the heat.
If the rears are gone in 30K make them check the calipers......

rears should be lasting longer then that and DEFINITELY do not use "squeal factor" to determine whether you need to replace the brakes.
I had new pads put in and 3 days later they were squealing. (thank you mazda )

I have 20K on mine and I changed out my front pads they were down to @ 20% left. You probably ride your brakes and they need to be stomped on every no and then to get rid of build up. Give them a nice hard brake a couple of times and it could go away it could just be brake dust and dirt build up. Also, find a nice powerful sprayer (at a good carwash not you garden hose) and try and clean them out. It gets rid of my squeaking. But I wouldn't be surprised if you need new pads.

Damn... It's been 5 years, 43K+ miles... Original brake pads. I'm actually wanting the damn things to go bad so I can order a new rotor/pad set from Rishie at Auto RnD and not feel like l'm buying something I don't need yet.

They replaced my Front pads 3 times. Cuz it squeak like a ****.
but it has been what, maybe 30K miles since? and I still have a lot of life in my front pads and rear pads. so hmm
it really depends on your driving style & if your brake system is working correctly.

I burned through my rears in 10K miles. 3 track days of very hard driving and the other 9500 miles were in town miles.
I changed my front pads from OEM to Hawk ceramic after 5K miles and 1 track day and I also installed the open slot 2 piece rotors. I had about 75% left on the fronts and I still have about 60% on the ceramics in the front.
My rear rotors have not turned color so i dont think the calipers are sticking but I am still very supprised how fast they wore out. I will be installing hawk ceramics in the rear and I hope that helps them last longer.
