new job = new coilovers
Alright I just landed myself a new job and I am finally going to get my 8 ready for some autox.
Anyways I will be running 17x10 +25 fnor1r-c's on 245/45/17. I dont want to just get a set of springs/shocks but a complete set. Looking at spending around 1000 give or take a few. My 8 is still my DD but will eventually be my weekend/track car. THIS is what I'm looking at now but I dont want to buy anything just yet, want to make sure I'm getting the best thing for the amount I'm wanting to spend.
Also I do not want to buy a set of used coilovers Id rather just buy some new ones to have warranty on them and be 100% sure they are in perfect condition and will last.
So basically does anyone have any suggestions or should I go ahead with this set of Ksport's for under 1200

Not sure why one would view coilovers as a waste of money if your aim is to use the car frequently at the track and change ride height as well. Buying just a shock/spring combo leaves you at the mercy of what comes with the setup with no adjustable options.
I have Stance coilovers on my car, got them a bit over $1,200, allows me to lower the car and also tweak the dampening which I'm glad I bought because as low as I went I needed a stiffer rating contrast to what was recommended to prevent it from rubbing on the wheel well liner. It took me 3-4 adjustments on height not to mention dampening adjustments to get it where I wanted. Point is, I rather have adjustment options if lowering my car because I will eventually use it on the track not to mention allows me to fine tune the car when lowered to get it where I want it.
Some for just a DD lowering their car will buy cheap strut/spring upgrades which work fine to get a lowered look but you're again, stuck at whatever the finished assembly gives you with a fixed dampening rate (unless it's some high end shock with adjustments). If you're going to track your car and want lowering/raise ability not to mention dampening adjustments, I'd go with coilovers

I was always under the impression that aftermarket shocks were somewhat adjustable at least?not sure though
And just like you I do plan on using my 8 for track, probably next year when I buy a new car altogether I will turn my 8 into a garage baby.
So any ideas on the ksports in the original post? better way to spend 1100?

Not all aftermarket shocks are adjustable. A lot of them I've looked into before resorting to coil overs don't have that feature.
I can't comment on shocks I haven't used. Stance coilovers were my first upgrade from stock and I chose them based on good reviews here, easy adjustments (since they're coilovers) for both dampening and height change. Just keep in mind without coilovers, you will be limited in a way to the adjustments you can do without them.
It all comes down to preference. For example some here have used Megan coilovers ($800-900 range) and loved them and used them on the track. Then again a lot of people here hated them and sold them to upgrade, particularly those who tracked. Some went high end, some were satisfied with low ends, some with non-coilovers and some with stock suspension. I hope more will chime in on their experience with their shock/spring combo to give you more of a selection.

Well to be honest, you may not get a lot of replies. I suggest just searching on here as there is a boat load of people who've switched suspension and wrote their thoughts, good or bad. About 99% of my upgrades I learned about and did was through this site, most without even asking a question.

yeah Ive searched, always do, the problem is opinions change and I try to find opinions from those who have been around and who I will easily take their word.
That being said most of what I see in regards to discussions about coilovers reverts back to the bilsteins for 1500-2000 dollars, however this is most likely more than what I need and more than I want to pay

Well coilover options in your range are I believe Megans, Stance, Teins, and maybe a few others but those are the main 3 I've seen or heard people use here for a low/medium end coil over.
Other options are as 9k put, adjustable shocks with coils. Just make sure you know how far you want the coils to drop and keep in mind they will settle in lower once driven. After that you'll have to preload them.
It seems you're bent on Bilstein so I would work within what they have available for now, and maybe if you want coil overs, sell those in a few years and upgrade.

Never fear, Jedi is here!
I'm not sure about those coilovers that you linked in the first post but I will tell you when it comes to suspension, it is very often a case of 'you get what you pay for'.
Cheap coilovers (under $1200 or so) is just that, a cheap coilover that might or might not last as well as the other brands and in some cases is not tall that superior to a good strut / spring combo.
It really depends on what you're looking for out of your setup. I see that your car will be a DD and see some track time so dampening is necessary but that begs the question of do you really need height adjustment.
Koni struts are amazing. period. end of that story.
Honestly, tons of guys Auto X with these, they have a lifetime warranty, and are fully adjustable. (they can get VERY stiff if you adjust them properly) Only 'downside' is the rears need to be removed to adjust them.
Is this a big deal? Depends on the user.
I ran Koni Yellows for about 2 years and only adjusted the rears once so this wasn't an issue for me.
If you can pair them with a great spring then you're in good shape. See this review by a former forum vendor of ours DPE: (this is an EXCELLENT read) https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-wheels-tires-brakes-suspension-55/spring-rates-other-basic-suspension-info-79096/
As for coilovers: There are A TON of options out there, some good, some bad, some cheap, some expensive.
As I've said hundreds of times in the past, I'll take a top end strut / spring combo over an entry level / cheap set of coilovers all day, every day. This is the reason why when it came time to change up my suspension I went with HKS Hypermax III coilovers.
At the end of the day, the choice is yours just

Just throwing this in there. My last setup, on a Civic, was Koni Yellows on Comptech (made by Eibach I believe) springs. Installed at 40k and by 110k the springs started to sag. Two thought processes here on this situation. First, that is a decent amount of time for springs to last and its cheap to replace them. Second, if I had gone ahead and gotten some coilovers this might not have happened? In either situation you would just replace the spring. I sold the car... :P Regardless as far as longevity you do get what you pay for. Jedi is correct on that one. Coilovers also give you the option for a larger array of spring rates.
Jedi's thoughts on Stance coilovers? Does anyone use GroundControl coilovers any more? That would give you the adjust-ability of height along with the options for different spring rates.

^yes I believe that is specific for our car,
just fyi I went bilstein HD's and eibachs simply because I found a killer used deal. Love em but wish I had that little adjustability like the koni's
