New staggered wheels - pics inside...
Hello everyone.
I think this is my first post here, but it's the first of many...
I just picked up an 04 6spd GT last month and have some decent plans for it. I'm from Dezod West, (www.dezodwest.com) which is a new sister company to Dezod Motorsports (www.dezod.com). I'll talk more about the companies in a different post...
Special thanks to the dirt parking lot at the local track for blowing out two of my stock tires and motivating me to go aftermarket. I kept the 2 good tires for up front for now, being that they were almost new. I went with a staggered setup due to the turbo kit we plan on releasing down the road. I need the extra traction once the power levels are closer to what we're shooting for. The TSWs were picked due to the cost/strength ratio. It's a very durable wheel that doesn't run a premium. The car will be subject to street testing and daily driving (for turbo kit testing), road racing, drag, and car shows. I needed a wheel that could hold up to various conditions, without pulling away from the money we're putting up towards some more serious product development.
The specifics of the setup:
TSW 18x8" Kyalami (Front), 40mm offset
TSW 18x9" Kyalami (Rear), 35mm offset
Front Tires: Bridgestone RE960 Pole Position 245/40/18 (using for now)
Rear Tires: Nitto Invo 275/35/18
Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions please ask. Thanks in advance!
-Joe

Wheels and Tires look nice. I love those tires. Good choice. I'm interested in the Turbo setup you mentioned. With the mods I've done to my car, I've actually made it slower. Hit me up when you have more plans for the turbo.

Sounds good. Keep your eyes on the Forced Induction section of the site. There will be a lot posts to come.
Thanks for the compliment on the wheels/tires... The new Nitto Invo impressed me a lot. I'm usually a Yokohama guy, but thought I'd try out a different tire. The Invo's traction is pretty impressive, but what really amazes me is the lack of road noise! This tire is literally almost silent up to over 90mph. It doesn't track much at all. I'd say it's a great street tire. The only complaint I have is that it seems slightly softer than some other tire brands out there. It's a solid transition, but the sidewall could have been a tiny bit stiffer.
That will be fixed with the race susepnsion and upgraded sway bars. Until then I guess I'll have to deal with it.

The handling isn't bad. It does throw off the balance slightly but I'm also still breaking the tires in. The rear fenders need to be rolled to eliminate the small rubbing I have. Once that's done, I'll push the car a lot harder and see what the results are.

I would think that part of the balance issue is that you are running different tires in the front and the back. If you have the same on all four corners you might have different results. Then again, it could just be the staggered set up.

The rubbing is more a question of how lowered the car is. I have my car pretty low, and I've got 285's on it. I had to have the rear fenders rolled, and the front wheels scrape if I crank the wheel all the way in either direction (which never happens anyways so I think I'm fine).

How do you like those Nitto's? i have the Nitto Neo Gens on the back of my car (245 40) and i hate them, no grip what so ever.
they are complimented by some BFG g-force kdw in the front and i can tell considerable difference btw the two

Thanks. So far they've been great and I'm rolling the fenders tomorrow.
The Nitto tires hold pretty well. Definately more of a street tire than a track tire, but that's where the car sits most often for now. When we start doing heavy road racing and drag I'll buy a set of lightweight wheels I think with some sticky Hankooks or Toyos.
