New summer tires

New summer tires
Well, winter is well over and I need to get new summer tires for my OEM rims. I'm planning to order from TireRack and have them shipped to an installer around here.
My question is whether anyone has a recommendation for the best summer tires I can get at the lowest price. The economy has been hitting me pretty hard, so I'd like good performance, but not the absolute top of the line.
Any tires you guys have had good experience with? Any to avoid?
Thanks,
Nick

Yep, the Kumho line is good bang for the [lesser] bux. They're only a small step down from the expensive stock Dunlop 8090's.

The Dunlop Direzza Z1's are a pretty good price... and I doubt the new Re11's are really any better. ... Probably somewhat better ... but $ 55 a tire better??

Thanks for all the ideas. I noticed the Kumho SPTs get either very good reviews or very bad ones. Is this just one of those things where some people aren't looking for that kind of ride?
Has anyone run the General Exclaim UHPs? They got high reviews, but the Tire Rack reviews are an aggregate of a lot of different vehicles.

"Yes still have the General UHP and love them. Great tire for the price, have about 20,000 mi on them and they are wearing good. I think they have an agressive appearance an have lower noise than the stock RE40's I'm in Calif so we dont have any snow and I cant comment on their snow traction. I would buy again."

"ill say you get what you pay for..
they are not bad.. worked fine for me... wore out a little faster than i liked..
but for 100$ i paid per tyre back in '06 .. i cant really complain.. did their job."
I was considering them too, but decided to get Bridgestone RE760s.
Still have my winter tires/wheels on until I get my new RE760's next week. When I put my winter tires on in December and they were much quieter than my significantly worn RE040, that confirmed it was time to get new tires .

Thanks to everyone for all the responses. I got a set of General Exclaims put on today and they seem to be working fine. The $50 rebate and the price was too good a deal to pass up.

Excellent! So how do the General UHPs compare to what you had before and what size did you get? Give us a future updates too. Enjoy them!
