new tires?? help!
Hey i recently got a flat tire on my back drivers side. I took it in to get sealed, but low and behold the mechanic points out to me that I need new back tires. I don't even know how I didn't notice the tread on both back tires was completely gone. Anyways, I am now in the market for some new performance tires. I just don't know whether I should get the exact same tires (Potenza's) or get something else. Is 10.5k miles alot for new back tires on this car, because my dad is pissed about it.
Just looking for some opinions and ideas. Don't know if its smart to mix potenzas on the front with something different on the back. anyway please let me know thanks,
greg
Also by the way, are the re 40's (potenzas) durable tires, or are there more durable ones. I'd definitely lean toward something in the high performance range, but durable at the same time. I live in Florida so no winter tires are needed and I do mostly city driving, with a little mix of highway. Thanks again, Greg

Your milage on those tires is probably about right. Espcially if you have never rotated them. Plus they are a high performance tire i.e. soft sticky rubber= better traction at the sacrifice of longer wear. I personally hate to mix and match tires on my cars, not so much because of the potentially diffrence in handleing, but I just hate haveing two diffrent kinds of tire on my car.
Yes, there are tires out there that will wear better. The Bridgestones are VERY soft. I am a HUGH fan of the BFG KDW 2's. Great traction, espcially in the rain, and decent wear for a performance tire. Price is not to bad either. Kumhos are a good bang for buck as well as Falken, but I really think you will love the BFG's, espcially with all the rain down there in Florida.

its a shame to put economy tires on such a great car. you are paying a lot of money in depreciation (its just hidden so people dont think of it) so the right tires make full use of that investment.
you can mix and match front and back. not ideal.
those KDW 2's mentioned are incredible on wet pavement. lotsa good tires though out there.
