New Tires - Michelin or Falken or Other?

Hi Everyone,

A couple days ago my stock tires for my 05 RX 8 finally gave out, the sidewall is ripped in one of them. They have been on their last legs for a while anyway.

So looking for new Tires.

I live in Toronto Area, I have winter tires so looking for strictly summer tires.
We have a moderate climate, it's not usually crazy hot. Let's say average 26C (80F) Average temp.
I want to stay with my stock set of rims, I don't have any after market parts.

I've been to a couple shops and here are their suggestions and prices

Falken 452 - $239
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S - $269
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 - $319

I'm leaning towards the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 as I don't want A/S Tires and Michelin is a name I know where Falken is not.

But I wanted to check with the experts first to see if I was just throwing money away getting the Michelin's over the Falken or if there is an even better option out there for me. I don't mind spending money if I'm getting a good value.

Thanks in advance for your help. Let me know if you need any more information to help with you advice.

That's pretty pricey for the PS2. I strongly recommend going through TireRack.com. $219 for the PS2 in the stock 225/45R18 size.

I've bought several sets of tires from them for various cars over the years and have nothing but praise for them.

The Falken 452's are a phenomenal tire. I am about to get my second set. But, the Michelin PS2's are in a different class. It is a stickier more track oriented tire. Also pricey. If you are looking at other tires in the same class as the PS2's, look at Dunlop direzza star specs or Nitto NT05's.

Guessing all the prices are in CAD dollars...that would make their price on the north side of the border seem a bit inflated.

You should definitely check out tirerack.com. Even if you don't buy from there you can do serious research and review testimonials for each of the tires that they have. I have bought my last 3 sets of tires (all except the oem ones) and have been thoroughly impressed.

Yep go for a low price. Falken has been climbing in quality and handling for the last 10 years,

Look at the tire tread rating. your not racing so get a good high wear tire.

I just put a set of BF Goodrich T/A KDWs on my 05 Shinka. Love those tires! Had them on my Ford Focus ZX3 for autocrossing and track days. Phenomenal handling and good treadlife too! $649.00 for a set of 4 (incl. Shipping) from treadepot.com.
