Non performance versus performance winter tires

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of trying to decide what type of winter tires to get and I'm having trouble understanding why someone would buy a performance winter tire over a non performance winter tire.

My Saab 92x recommends having a performance winter tire but I decided to go with non performance michelin X-ICE tires because

#1 they are much cheaper than equivalent performance winter tires
#2 they are better than their counterpart performance winter tire (Alpins) as a performance tire needs to sacrifice compound for a higher speed rating

Is there any reason people buy performance winter tires as opposed to non performance aside from the notion that you could go over 99MPH if you wanted to (who would in the winter is beyond me)

It might have to do with the speed rating my winter tires are only rated for 170 kmh (105 mph) so you can't go real fast on them without them shaking real bad. Eventhough I've been to 230 kmh with them on and it just does not feel that smooth. I also could of got ones that were rated for 240 kmh (149mph).
