These are the Racing line of wheels only. The show and lightweight cast will be out soon. The wheels will hit the market in late Feb early March. Hope you all like them please leave feedback. I have pics of the other wheels coming out and there are a couple of show wheels that are just SICK as hell. I only have the CAD drawings of those though. There will be a split 3 spoke wheel that resembles the Advans on the Red Nissan Silvia 180 from HKS.

Leading wheel manufacturer puts emphasis on all forms of racing in ‘05

Rancho Dominguez, CA – Motegi Racing introduced its new line-up at the 2004 SEMA show and received praise from both industry insiders as well as consumers. The leading wheel manufacturer is launching 7 new wheel styles and augmenting several existing styles by offering more bolt codes, offsets, and widths than ever.

Motegi’s new brand manager, Glenn Oyoung, is seeking to build on Motegi’s 5 years of success worldwide. His strategy is simple: give the customer what they want and make wheels that perform. Motegi’s extensive product line is now formally divided into three special segments – MotegiTRACK, MotegiSTREET, and MotegiSHOW. TRACK wheels feature forged and lightweight products engineered for racing. STREET wheels are one-piece cast wheels featuring the latest styling. Finally, SHOW wheels offer chrome styles to those unafraid of the extra attention. Of the three segments, Motegi’s counting on its TRACK wheels to really set it apart from the competition.

“Our parent company has been in the business of racing since 1956,” said Oyoung. “Over the last year we’ve been working hard to put the ‘Racing’ in Motegi Racing.” In 2005 the focus has been to not only turn out world-class styles, but wheels that perform on the track. Motegi has developed new products specifically engineered for the rigors of drag racing, drifting, and road-racing. Motegi’s engineers and designers have partnered with leaders in each sport to develop wheels that meet the unique requirements of each form of racing.

On the drag racing side, Motegi has worked with AEM as a sponsor of the AEM/DriverFx.com Civic piloted by the legendary Stephan Papadakis. This year Motegi is launching the Predator SP, an SFI-certified drag wheel designed for all levels of drag racing. Made from aerospace-grade 6061-T6 forged aluminum, the Predator SP is a three-piece wheel that can be found on Steph’s car, as well as 2004 NHRA Champions Nelson Hoyos and Marty Ladwig. It is available with optional beadlock and engraving and can be ordered with custom offsets and widths.


Motegi was one of the first companies to recognize the potential of the arrival of drifting on US shores. Early on Motegi partnered up with one of the most well-respected names in drifting, McKinney Motorsports. Motegi worked with Gary McKinney to develop the Touge, Motegi’s first RWD wheel. Drivers and consumers also weighed in to help take the wheel from concept to production. Paying respect to the birthplace of drifting as we know it, the Touge is named after the mountain passes in Japan where going sideways on purpose was invented.

The Touge features a deep diamond-machined lip, glossy painted center, as well as a spoke decal designed by the creative minds at Drift Racing Apparel. Most importantly it’s available in the aggressive sizes and offsets that drifters require. And it’s tough. Drivers Ernie Fixmer, Verena Mei, and Tanner Foust have raced on prototypes of the Touge for a year with no damage to the wheels, regardless of crashes. That’s important in drifting. The Touge can be seen competing in Formula D, D1, and other events.

Last but certainly not least, Motegi has also devoted itself to road-racing as well. Following up on its immensely popular Trak_Lite forged wheel, Motegi has introduced the Trak_Lite 2, a six-spoke forged wheel featuring new sizes (15x7 and 17x8) specifically made for road-racers. Weighing in at roughly 10.5 lbs (for the 15”) the Trak_Lite 2 reduces unsprung weight which creates improvements in acceleration, braking, and handling. With a machined lip and two different finishes, the wheel looks as good as it performs. The Trak_Lite 2 has already been tested by 2003 Honda Challenge H-1 Champion Andy Hope, who commented, “I like the look and most of all the performance of the wheel. And for the money this wheel is a huge value for racers. I’m racing on it in 2005.”

Motegi will round out it’s MotegiTRACK offering with the introduction of two ultra-lightweight cast wheels, the LC5 and LC12 in the summer of 2005. With all of these new products in the lineup, Motegi is looking to continue to move towards its goal of becoming the choice for performance-oriented enthusiasts in the sport compact market.

I have some prliminary pricing on the series, but I can't give that out just yet. The Togue wheel is going to be VERY reasonable. The other rims should be available for prices very similar to other models in the current lineup. The thing about it is that they are stepping WAY up on quality and construction trying to re-invent the brand. It is a very bold move and I am really excited about what '05 will bring.

I'll post some pricing as soon as I get the thumbs up.

Everyone seems to be making the same styles of rims. Just small variations on 4 basic designs. I will be looking for the "BBS" style, then look at price and weight. The "Trak Light" wasn't too bad though. No 18's?

In another year I'll get another 2 sets of Motegis and not have the full amount you'd invest in the name Volk. In another year Volks will be a thing of the past. I'm already sick of seeing them on every damned car out there. They need some new designs. That SF Challenge wheel is getting overused.

Don't get me wrong I'd still love a set but I'd NEVER pay that much for the name.

At least these new ones aren't blatant ripoffs of some other wheels as they have been in the past.

The current Trakk Lites weigh in at 14.3 lbs in 17x7. The Trak Lite 2 may be lighter but I'm not sure. I'll try to find out. They will be slightly wider so I would guess they'd be somewhere near the current weight. The 19's also (Trak Lite 1) weight only 18 lbs.

You're right. But also in the past they were simply trading wheels between in house brands. American racing owns Motegi and RO_JA.

The FF5 was once a RO_JA wheel and also the DPK was once the RO_JA Kruzz. The only thing that changed was the center cap.
