I have this combination and can say the car is fantastic. The springs are quite stiff, but with easy adjustment of the shocks at all 4 corners, in less than 5 minutes, you can turn the car from a comfortable street drive to being stiffer than you will need for track use.
Ride height is about as low as you could tolerate, but will still make it over moderate sized speed bumps without scratching as long as you go slowly and on a diagonal.
I've had this combination in use for almost 2 months. To get close to how soft the stock shocks are, you will need to set them at full soft (7 turns out). I ride at 4-5 turns out for the street.
I just finished driving on a track all weekend where I found that 2-3 turns out provided excellent response. The car was really planted to the ground, but still ate up the pavements inconsistencies. The track was quite tight (mainly 2nd and 3rd gear), and that allowed me to pull away from even a Dodge Viper in most sections of the track. Even in the straight aways he could not pull enough track back to make up for the twisties. (but that thing accelerates like a pit bull on crack) The RX-8 really is a fantastic track car... and I have only $150, 300 treadwear tires to boot. Viper had $400 Pilot Sports.
My car is bone stock other than the H&R's and Tokiko D's. (stock sways and struts)

thank you both for your repsonses, very helpful!
i recently got a very good offer on JICs but i fear those will be too stiff to be driving daily... i like what you've told me bout the H&R and Tokico tho so perhaps i will go for that, not sure yet
also, would u happen to have pics of your car? thanks!

I can take pics later, but check out the other post called "just slammed my car with H&R's". (or something like that) My car looks just like that red one, with and without the Tokico D specs installed.
JIC's are awesome too. I've never tried them, or seen the fitment on the RX-8, but other cars I've seen and ridden in handle exceptionally well. (mind you those were on race cars set way too stiff for the road, and I have no idea how many different kits JIC have for the RX-8). As long as they have some adjustability, at all 4 corners, which can be adjusted in a reasonable amount of time without needing a wrench, you will probably be very happy.

I just got mine on Ebay for $540 shipped from what appears to be a reputable vendor.
Mazdatrix has them for $579 + shipping, but this includes the adjuster cables.
Good-win has them for $579, no adjuster
The adjusters at Mazdatrix are only $28.95 shipped.
