Kinda busy, but I got two done. Wanted to post, so I took a picture early this morning (hence fog). Pic quality isn't the best, but I wanted to see what ya'll thought.

Im in the painted black wheel club too, well actually its powder coat but you get the idea (RPF1s)

 

Yeah! Those are turning out good. Did you prime first? Spray with gloss or clear coat?

To get a good picture, you need the sun/light behind you, shining on the wheels.

 

So what is the benefit of powder coating over painting? I would think a good painting would look better than powder coating but then again i think powder coating would really hold up to the elements. My cousin had his BBS EVO MR rims painte dgold and they held up well.

 

Powder coating is a baking process and the finished product takes on an enamel like hardness. Where a piece of airborn gravel could easily scratch a painted rim, it would simply bounce of a powder coated one.

 

I am so doing this. Anyone thought about leaving a 1/2 inch of silver on the OEMs and having the rest painted black? I'm not sure if this would look tacky or not.

Whats the average cost of powdercoating anyways?? And the logic behind powdercoating being a plus over painting is understandable, but how often does gravel fly at the actual rim (probably more often then i'm thinkin)?

 

Actually, if you could make the line smooth - I think it would look good but that may be tricky to do.

I've heard average price is about $100 per wheel for powder coating but I've heard some will do it for as low as $25 a wheel.

I painted mine and never had a gravel scratching issue...

Do any of you guys have issues with paint chips during the mounting and balancing process?

 

hmmm.. do u guys recommend painting or saving for a set of gunmetal or black volks?

I mean is it realy gonna last?

 

it will last till you save enough for volks. painting/powdercoating is just a cheaper way to go. i did it untill i could save enough and till i found a new set i really liked

 

Actually no. I had a new set of tires put on after I painted the wheels and they came out fine. No noticable scratches or anything..

It has held up pretty well and the best part is that it really only cost me the cost of the paint - less than $10 - plus about a half day's time...

Worst case scenario, I strip it off with paint stripper or electric drill with a wire brush attachment and do it over. No biggie and still cheap.
