Painting Calipers

Hi, i was just wondering, I have seen a lot of threads were people have painted there calipers and wheel hub. Now my question is this i don't want to have to take apart the calipers nor the rotors....SOOOO can i just take off my wheel and paint the calipers and wheel hub?

Thank You

Depends on what you use and how carefully you can put the wheell back on without touching anything. Most dry pretty fast....I think I would wait one hour to put the wheel back on and you should know that most caliper paints will say not to drive for about 12-15 hours(I think).

Rotor Hubs painted, Calipers painted. I actually took the rotors off the car and cleaned and taped off and painted them, so that the hubs are perfectly done and no paint got onto the braking surface. But i painted the calipers on the car while putting the rotors on, let dry for 15 mins before i reassembled them on the rotors. After i was done i waited about half an hour, went on a 10 minute test, did braking from 70-0 (not on purpose). They lasting great so far.

Wheels very dirty in first pic, normally the glossyness of the calipers and wheels are identical.

Washed and left wet, the rotor pad surface will slightly oxidize, but back to silver as soon as you hit the brakes, the purpose was to keep the rest of it looking good. And for a total cost of a couple bucks.

I painted my brakes with the brakes on the car. I wrote about it on my blog. Check it out and let me know what you think.

The brakes have been pressure washed since I painted them without any peeling or problems.

Of course make sure you thoroughly clean/degrease the surfaces to be painted (hub and calipers, Not rotors). Doesn't hurt to abrade with fine sandpaper as well to provide a better bonding surface. Basically what you would do to prep and paint any metal that will be exposed to the elements. Rust-oleum paint is plenty good enough.

You do not have to take anything a part. Jack up the car and take off the wheels.

You will need the following:

Jack
Jack stands
Brass brush
Brake cleaner
Tape
High Temp Brake Paint
Clear Coating
Patience

Depends of the brand of paint so be sure to look on the back of the can. I believe my paint required 24 hours.

If and when you paint them be sure to go with black

Of course no matter what color you paint the calipers, I always recommend painting the dust shield as well.
Even if you leave the calipers and rotors on as I did, paint the dust shields(black).

Painting the shields would be nice, but mine have tons of spot corrosion, i didn't think about it until i was already mid installation, i needed to drive the car the next day, and they're cheap new and pretty hard to see. Eventually when i move again ill buy new ones.

Really nice job on the pictured cars. I'll have to do this when I get my new wheels. Did you guys order the paint of just get it from AutoZone, or the such? Thanks!
