painting rims a bad idea?

hello, below is my car. and as i stated in a thread yesterday, i'm looking for some ideas to spice up her looks. painting the rims black was one idea i had, because it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do myself. however, my friends all think it would look bad, and that the paint would chip off easily. i was wondering if anyone else has painted their rims, or if you payed for a pro to do it, or if you just bought them that way. thanks!

Painting the tyres is a GREAT idea ! Just be sure to use enamel paint as it is more hard wearing than acrylic .

haha no you asked the right question, the title of the thread made me think you were going to ask if it was a good idea to spray the tire itself

Spraying wheels can be done right, but you really want to dedicate a weekend to it and have the wheels removed from the car for best results. Spending some time wetsanding to get a nice smooth finish, applying a light primer, gentle side to side spraying of the color you want, and a good amount of drying time and you can get a really nice look. Lots of guys here take their OEM rims and paint them flat black. They will chip over time, thats just the cost of painting anything to be honest, but nothing that a little touch up here and there wont cover.

Cost me about 40 dollars to do mine, that includes primer paint and sand paper.
You can get an idea about how it looks by my sig.

Ive had them on for about 6 months now and they do need to be recoated but they still look alright.
And with any painting take your time doing it.

You might want to look into using Plasti-dip if you want to paint them. Easy to do, and easy to remove if you don't like it or screw up.

+1, definitely look into plasti dip to give it a shot! Easily removable if you don't like it, though long term strength is still questionable. Cheap option though, worth a DIY
