Replacing Tyres..Help me Choose...Only three choices available in my country:p
Want to replacy my tyres mounted on stock rx8 rims. The following three tyres are available in my country for rx8. Sadly all three of them are 225/40/r18. So what do you suggest:
1.. Dunlop SP Sport 9000 225/40 R18 for passenger cars
2. Yokohama AVS ES100 225/40 R18 for passenger cars
3. Bridgestone Potenza G3 225/40 R18 for passenger cars
I did some search on this forum before posting and read people suggesting that 225/40's should not be mounted on stock wheel. However the yokohoma tyres have recommended rim width of 8" which is equivalent to rx8 stock rim. So what should i Do; I also have some options available in 215/40 category.
Thanks Again

As i said there are no other options available. The only option available are the three tires mentioned is dunlop sp 9000, potenza g3 and yokohoma es100. Furthermore the only size these three tyres are available are 225/40.
I don't know much about tyres but there are reviews available about es100 and dunlop sp 9000 on tirerack.com. However no reviews are available for potenza g3.
So question here is pretty simple.
1. So should i go with a 225/40 tyre. What difference would an a 225/40 tyre make in an rx. The recommended rim width for all of the above tyre is 8" inch which is the same as rx.
2. If yes to above, which tyre should i go with.

I meant what's so bad about 225/40? Since you said "sadly" they are 225/40. Just slightly lower profile than stock, same width.
I hear the Yokohama brand is good, no experience with it. I'm no tire guru, but try finding those tires on www.tirerack.com and see how they all compare in ratings and reviews.
Personally, my current favorite that I vouch for is the Sumitomo HTR Z III. I run that in 245/40/18.

That's exactly something i am asking. Is there anything bad about 225/40 or is it allright to put them on rx. And if it is okay which tyre should i go for.

They should be fine. Your speedometer reading will read a little higher than is should and you will put a few more miles/km on the car than with the OEM size. The 245/40/18 size should be close to the same diameter as the OEM size. There would be no change to the Speed/Odometer.
It seems that the Potenza G3's are available in Australia in the 235/40/18 size. If that option is available to you that would be closer to the OEM size.

A slightly rougher ride due to the lower profile (not as much volume to absorb shock; doubtful noticeable), and the slight speedometer/odometer offset, but nothing 'bad' going with 225x40 on the stock 18" rims. Of the three I prefer, in descending order:
Dunlop
Yokohoma
Bridgestone

Yokohoma

Yeah the 225/40's will work just fine. Just know that your speedo will be slightly off.
Come to think of it, how much of a difference does 45->40 make to the speedo? I completely forgot about that while driving around. So I'm going slower than I thought I was?

The OEM's are 225/45 if I recall, so my 245/40's would be smaller in diameter (the 45/40 being the tread height), thus my speedo would be slightly off. But not a big deal.

The 40/45 is the ratio of sidewall height to tread with. Because you have increased the treadwith from 225 to 245, the height of the sidewall increased. Therefor, the 225/45 is equivalent in diameter as a 245/40 tire. Of course, these sizes (actual measured width, sidewall height & diameter) varies by manufacturer

I have found another tire in the market know as dunlop direzza 101. So now my choice is down to dunlop direzza and dunlop sport 9000.
I cannot understand the difference between the two tyres as they are very similarly priced. So which one should i get of these two.

The Direzza is a Summer Max and the Sport 9000 is a Summer Ultra.
Max generally has a bit more grip than Ultra, but as it's a softer compound it doesn't wear quite as long.
Compare on Tirerack.com

Actually Sp Sport is Summer Max whereas Direzza is Ultra Performance. I think you mean to say that Direzza Wears Out quicker?

Darn, I meant to type that the Direzza is Extreme performance and SP Sport is Max, but same principle, so yes the Direzza will most likely wear out quicker. My OEM Dunlop 8090's are Ultra.
The order of grip goodness in descending order (but thereby also quicker wear) is:
Extreme
Max
Ultra
