See thru tires!

Don't know if this is for real, decided to post anyway. Bizarre. Why would they bother?
These tires are made in South Carolina , USA .

SEE THROUGH TIRES a radical new tire design by Michelin.
The next generation of tires.
They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for Police and other law enforcement is that stinger spikes will not work on these.

Just think of the impact on existing technology:

A. No more air valves ...
B. No more air compressors at Petrol stations ...
C. No more repair kits ...
D. No more flat tires ...
E.. Less expensive and more money in the drivers pocket.

These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

They will never be readily available to the general public. These have been around for a long time. The technology for tires that last forever has been available for some time but if they were mas produced they would put themselves out of business. Or they would cost more than the car is worth.

Similar tires have been around for bicycles. Usually a solid tire though. Although I think the overall look needs to be worked on(easiest fix would be cover the damn sides) it would be nice to know that you cant get your tires slashed or run over a nail or glass and need to pay $250 for a new tire.

Compared to a regular tire, how long do they last?

I remember seeing these on discovery channel a few years ago.

They called them "tweels" (tire/wheel combo)

Most of the things you see on Spike are experimental... we still use regular air-filled tires and tracks but yea.
