Seriosly need some input for picking offsets (8.5)
Guys, I swear this is gonna be the last thread of me asking about wheels.
So, I'm gonna get some 18x8.5 CR-Kai next week (finally)
However, I'm still stuck in picking out the best offset between within the three semi-concave offsets.
I currently have 245/40ZR18 Tires with stock suspensions
Which one do you guys think would look best actually, between +25, +32 and +38, I am really confused now.
My car is pretty bone stock on exteriors

http://i41.tinypic.com/2guzleo.jpg
Though I'm probably going to lower the car by an inch or a little more later with coilovers
+25, +32, +38 offsets would push my wheels out by 18mm, 24mm, 31mm respectively.
These all fit, so please dont' tell me to post it on "Will It Fit"
What really confuses me the most are these.
These are pictures of Im_DANomite's car, he has 9.5 and +38mm offset, which by calculation shud be the same as +25 of 8.5, pushing the wheel out 31mm
when this, the front wheel is +30mm
which the offset would look closer to +32
To me, I think +32 would suit me most, but if they had to be special ordered, then I'd rather decide between +25 and +38, which one do you think would give me a closer look to the one with +30 offset?
This is +38
This is too conservative, don't u think?
So my main concern!
Would 8.5 +25 look bad? Would it look too wide? I need input please! Thanks a lot guys!
Trust me, i looked, nobody had this combination before, and i don't really wanna Eff up my car on my first set of custom wheels

Atilla here...
+25 on a 8.5 will fit with 245/40.
IIRC this is the setup that dozer currently has on his rears and they fit fine. You may want to also take into consideration that if you're gonna go with 40 sidewall - you may want to steer away from KDW's as they seem to run a little 'fatter' than most tires.
On second thought - depending on how aggressive your drop is...40 sidewall might cut it a little close. I don't know what kinda tire you have ATM however if you're gonna drop more than an inch you may want to take that into consideration as well. I believe a smaller sidewall would also help if you don't plan on cambering.
p.s. - cambering would also help your cause

dezau,
1.) Might I ask where you ordered your wheels? I just ordered CR Kai's myself. I went with the 9.5's +38 Deep Concave in the rear and 8.5 +37 semi-concave in the front. The flat face's look terrible in my opinion. Hopefully when they get here, it is what I ordered.
2.) I would honestly go with the +38. Not that I think you want to be conservative, but because with this setup at least you would be able to do almost anything you want with it.
Fatter/Taller Tires (255?), and go about as low as you want to. Maybe some Tein S-Tech's would do the trick. I believe with the +25 you may run into issues if you decide to lower the car, which could be fixed with a roll, but you gain no particular concavity advantage changing around the offsets. +38 and drop the **** out of it. Annddddddd....go!

Why get the 8.5 inch wides?
I don't know if I missed a previous thread or if there is something else I have not considered, but why even bother with the 8.5 inch wide wheels.
My opinion would be to get the 9.5 +38, mount your 245/40/18 tires on them and be done with it
When the time comes for new tires, you can go for something wider like a 265/35.

highly recommend the new Kumho XS, good price and awesome grip

running a low offset may look kool, but it hurts handling by increasing the steering geometry scrub radius, plus the longer suspension lever arm also results in more body roll for a given swaybar/spring rate

18x9.5's CR Kai's are damn near impossible to get now...it took Fluid a couple of days to find my staggered set. Mind you I wanted the 9.5's all around. Dezau, you didn't answer where you ordered your wheels from.

Offset is the distance from the center line of the wheel to the hub mounting surface. The further you move the offset from the stock distance the more you move the wheel away from its intended pivot point on the pavement. You need to increase or decrease offset evenly with your changes in width, etc... If you don't, instead of the wheel pivoting on a point when you turn, it hast to travel along an arc instead. This changes the response and driving behavior of the car and scrubs your tires. As also mentioned this changes suspension geometry as well and can put extra stress on members than originally intended.
I believe tirerack has something on this as well. If I get a chance later I'll elaborate more.
