it won't blow up in the sense of an explosion, but its just not a good idea... the stock shocks are meant for the stock springs & by lowering the car, you are putting a lot of stress on the shocks. this will cause them to wear out VERY rapidly & ride quality will downright suck. go ahead & get konis or tokicos with your springs, you won't regret it.
when people say they'll blow up, its more like a popped shock than an explosion...
welcome to the club! (be sure to check out the search function at the top right side of the page, for future reference)
PS- do you know what springs you are going with?

oh yeah, & i get about 200 miles even on a tank. if you haven't noticed, there is an abnormally large range for mileage around here, something like 150-350... i don't really know or care. i just love the car too much to worry about it!!

depends on the springs.
RB designed their springs with the stock shocks in mind, iirc, so it's ok to just use their springs.
MS however did not.
Since all you are after is looks, you probably don't need the spring rates that the MS one's have, and RB would be fine.

you're right... i sorta forgot about RB. however, if he is going for looks i doubt he'll choose something as subtle as RB. thank you for clarifying though

RB=Racing Beat.
they have an intake & exhaust for the RX8 as well, which are both very popular. people don't tend to buy their springs as much, because most people who invest in springs are looking for a more drastic drop & increase in spring rate. the RB's only drop you about half an inch & increase spring rate 15% (i think...). Those who do get them, knowing how relatively subtle of a change it is, tend to love them.

Heres pics of my 8 w/ the RB drop. You won't notice much of a difference with the ride comapred to stock. I like the drop in the rear, but the front still has a huge gap in my opinon. If you want to even out the drop I would suggest buying some Tein's. Hope this helps...
