I bought a used 2009 RX8 and it has Dunlop Sports 225/45R18 91W tires on it. Are they the original? Did the GT's come with Dunlops? and about how long do they last in normal driving?

Mild winters in southern Missouri so the question is whether to keep driving on these tires, get winter tires or an ultra performance all season tire. Obviously, if I get winter tires, I will return to the original Dunlops after the winter and if I get the all season tires, I would not return to the originals.

Get about 10-15" of snow, melts rather quickly. Its a lot of slush, slushy ice or snow and rain.

Can't make up my mind about whether to stay with the current, apparently original, Dunlop Sports tires (some say they are dangerous as they are summer tires), get all season or get winter tiores and swap back to the tires I have in April.

if you have temps below 40F you will have low traction with the summer tires on dry pavement. now add in slush and posabale ice you will no traction. its up to you if you want snow tires or all seasons, but it sounds like you really dont need snow tires.

Whatever you do, don't drive with summer tires if there's ANY snow or ice. Or black ice.

I know changing tires sounds like a lot of trouble if you live where it hardly snows, but believe me, one spin out where your 8 rams up against a curb, a guardrail – or another car – and you'll be so glad you switched 'em. Well worth the time and money.

I have an extra set of cheap rims with stud less snow tires mounted on them. My 8 also has traction control which I find invaluable! I put about 30K miles a year and drive in all kinds of nasty stuff due to living in the mountains outside of Portland, OR. I'm fine until we get over 4 inches of powder on the road. Then it starts coming into the grill and the car can't/I won't push through it (I have a truck for that).

I typically change my tires over the Thanksgiving weekend typically because as said above, summer tires just don't have much traction when it get's cold. Any time after then and I can get caught away from home in snow or ice and want to make it back.
