Question Snow tires for RX8

I live in Boston, it snowed today ever so slightly and I recieved a panicked call from my wife who said the 8 wasn't moving at all, or more accurately was fish tailing like crazy. Any suggestions for snow tires and rims? Source for good discounts?

I live in Haverhill, and have Blizzak WS-50 ( 225/50 17 ) on my 8, and it was fine today. It did better than my 4WD Sport-Trac with all seasons on it.

Mark

P.S. I got the package from Tire Rack ( tirerack.com ).. I got the Blizzaks mounted on Kazera KZ-R 17" rims. I went with the 17" tires because the WS-50 did not come in an 18" size. The only blizzak that was 18" was the LM-22, and it isn't as good as the WS-50 on ice.

Do a search for 'winter tires' in the Tires and Wheels section and especially in the Canada regional section - there are several detailed discussions of available winter tire and wheel options. For a quick fix, go to www.tirerack.com .

FWIW, the problem is the OEM high performance summer tires - it's not just the RX-8, but ANY car wearing tires like that will be absolutely useless and dangerous in snow. Several of us have been running our winter tires in snow for over a month, and the RX-8 is great.

Here's a few threads to get you started:

Here's my posting for snow tires and wheels:

My winter wheel/tire package is on its way from the Tire Rack. I was originally going to go with the Dunlop M3's ,but was told they were all out and they wouldn't be getting any more in. I went with the 17x7 Kazera KZ-R's with Pirelli 225/50HR-17 Winter 210 SnowSport tires. They should be here next week and I'll try to weigh them up before I install them.

$232 each for my Blizzak LM-22's on the 18" rims, mounted and balnced. Cheaper at a local shop than at a national chain or outlet, at least here in Des Moines. It's supposed to snow tonight. We'll see how I do!
