Some thoughts after the JIC coilovers...
First of all the JIC's are great, and so would be any aftermarket setup!
I have not corner weighted the car yet, nor have I gone in for an alignment yet.
Stock, the car's rear would slide out more than normal, and the stock body roll would be hard to bring the car back in from a drift.... because of the weight transer, a pendulm effect would result from bringing the car back in under "drift" or "oversteer" situations.
The increased spring is nice for this, but I just noticed one thing. Camber is realy increased in the rear when lowering, and has been on other cars that I've done coilovers on. I have not be able to extensively test my other cars after the change, so here's a realization.
for those looking to do track days, a bit more camber up front on the stock suspension might actually be a good thing. I think that combined with the body roll, the camber will help to plant the rear end in corners more and give some more traction at the limit.
Try things with DSC ON first, the DSC is actually pretty forgiving, and if it kicks on, try again without triggering it!
I just think it's a testament that a performance alignment might get you a lot more than suspension setup by itself.
I can't tell you what to do with alignment, or how to drive your car, but just wanted to share this insight with you all.
Anyone have good alignment results and actually increase their track/autox times yet?

afterall JIC magic does use their suspension set up for drifting. Maybe when you add the tie rods and their other goodies, you will get the full effect? Anyways, JIC coilover set is what I am leaning toward, how much of a lowered stance did you achieve?

JIC magic makes coilovers in a few different flavors.
People into drifting usually use high spring rates on their cars, and some drifters even use JIC coilovers.
There's some pics of the car in the multimedia gallery

Ok, after doing remote adjusters, putting on the 245's, etc....
I had the rears way too hard at 4 from hardest. After some playing, they are now at:
Front: 8 back from hardest
Rear: 7 back from hardest
OMFG, what a sweet ride, especially now that I can play with the setup without dropping the rears!!!!! Here's the linky:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=15522
Very controlled over bumps, not that harsh at all over big bumps!!!! WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!
Yet, the car still drifts nicely, with a lot of control bringing the car back from drifts... whereas stock would leave a pendulum effect because the suspension was a bit mushy!
On another note, I ordered through Brian Goodwin some of the racing beat sway bar links. Good price for the set, and the official word is "they are avail now".
PS: I jb welded a stock sway bar link temporarily, and it seems to be holding just fine. We'll see after autox tomorrow

Next week should be corner balance and performance alignment.
I usually have recommended 2 weeks to let things settle before alignment, or 200-300 miles.
However, I'm still playing with ride height, wish I had the time and money to do everything now, and record settings.
I'm a privateer, so what my tires and times tell me at autox, that will determine a few adjustments this weekend... and no, I won't have optimal suspension setup, but it will be much better than stock!!!
Either way, with the new dampning setup where I can adjust on the fly, it makes suspension tuning much easier!
This is just the start... much more to come soon!

I have some stories to tell about the last autox, jic's, etc, but I'm waiting for results to be posted first

Put my JIC's on last week and finally had a chance to play with them today. WOW what a difference these make! The handling is remarkable now -- not that it was bad before -- but it is so controlled and tight in turns now that you really notice the difference and reduced roll, etc. At the softest setting the ride comfort is close to stock. For fun I tightened them down to half way between soft and firm -- very very firm at that setting -- not something I would want to drive around town set at -- probably great for the track. I lowered the car an inch in front and 1.5 in rear -- putting on the MS bumper next week so waiting to see final ride height. The coilvers really turn the handling/driving feel of the 8 into more of a pure sportscar IMO -- being able to adjust is also fun. I took a few tight corners at speed and was amazed at how well the car tracked through the turn -- even with my winter tires on.

So you guys are OK with the street ride, huh? I'm definitely planning on these being my next purchase, but I'm worried about the feel on the road. The suspension is already a little harsh and I'm concerned that I'll be able to feel every bump after the JICs.
Syntrix, I saw your thread for the remote adjustibility (great work dude), but how easy are the adjustments now? A matter of minutes or will I have to play with it for awhile?

They come with adjusters now -- you don't have to fab your own. It takes about 2 minutes to adjust all four adjuster ***** -- it will take time to figure out just what settings you prefer. I had mine set at four clicks from softest and almost rattled my teeth out on the interstate -- but they were great at that setting for driving around town.
If you think the stock ride is harsh you may want to rethink coilovers. Even at the softest setting the JIC are much stiffer due to the springs primarily (I think). Overall comfort at the softest setting is about the same as stock but you will definitely feel that is is stiffer when you go over something like a speed bump or pothole. It rides much more like a 350Z or Porsche with the coilovers on (between softest and 3 clicks out) but not nearly as stiff as a FD -- these are the only other sports cars I have driven to compare.

Like husker said, they come with adjusters now.
I have the old fuel line hose in there, and can usually adjust both sides in about 1-2 minutes or less.

Glad to here that you guys are liking the coilovers. Now your in my world! I've been able to keep track of my different settings with a log book and now I have the perfect settings for the 3 local road coarses around me. With an upgraded sway bar in the rear, coilovers, and my newly installed JIC front and rear strut bars this baby handle like it's on rails and really makes the car squat and plant into the turns. It's almost a competitive race car now since I put on the StopTech brakes. Just needs a little more punch down low and I'm ready to start passing some of the M3s coming out of the turns.

Huff,
Are you just going by seat of the pants and laptimes? Just wondering if you are using any electronics and sensors to measure suspension travel. Did you know you can record that on the LM1?
