Specs/Performance of Mazdaspeed Adjustable Coilovers?

Well, I've search around on these things, and haven't found any information other then some people being quoted a silly price.
So, I thought I'd try again.

Does anybody know anything about this kit? Not the older "sport" shock and spring kit, but the new height and damping adjustable coilover kit?

My dealership quoted me what seems like a pretty good price on them (about $2100 Canadian, which is in the ballpark of TEIN, JIC etc. this side of the border.)

Anybody know what the spring rates (same as Mazdaspeed sport springs?) or anything about them?

Info seems pretty thin, but, I really do like the idea of keeping everything Mazda on the car.

I know my question is broad, but so far all I can find is a part number in a Mazdaspeed brochure and a price from my dealer.

Anybody heard anything? Even Internet Fantasy rumours that it lets the car fly, get 50mpg and it includes a Flux Capacitor?

Don't know about that kit, but don't worry about keeping everything Mazda. There are lots of great companies making excellent stuff you will love... for less money. If you want to sell the car later and are worried about resale, $250 bucks is a pretty cheap way to return your suspention to stock and have somebody put the original Mazda parts back in. (provided you didn't blow up the shocks already)

See the thing is, there doesn't seem to be much for less money.
JIC, TEIN, HKS etc. all seem to be around $1500 USD, which, once you calculate for exchange rate, shipping etc. is going to come in at over $2000 Canadian, or the same price as the Mazdaspeed's. So, that being the case, all other things being equal, I'd stick with one manufacturer, you KNOW everything is going to fit perfectly, work well on the car, and probably be OEM quality.

it's going to cost you close to $3k from the dealer unless Motorsport quoted me the list price rather than the usual wholesale 3 or 4 months ago, they gave ma ll the info and I'm not sure where it is now

Like I said, local Canadian dealership quoted me $2080 Canadian for the Adjustable coilovers listed in the brochure.

PN# RAMS-8M-K01

They are for the RX-8, and are not the "sport springs" and "sport dampers."

ok, I was told a larger number by MazdaSpeed Motorsports that I assumed was wholesale, but again that was several months ago so maybe it changed or was a mistake, they were extremely preliminary then

I'd wager the one's found in the mazdaspeed brochure sitting in most dealerships will be a more street oriented and cheaper version... probably in the $1500 US range like the Mazda 6 coil-overs

r0tor, you might be on to something there.. but, well, that's kind of what I'm trying to figure out.

TeamRX8: Did Mazda Motorsports give you a part number?

I gave them the same part number as shown above by RedShift, same shock/spring combo, as mentioned in another thread it is not entered in the US part system yet, but they have access to the MazdaSpeed information before the dealerships

it said they had adjustable valving but didn't mention single or double; I'm betting single, adjustable iperches, and the spring rates as I recall were only just a small bit stiffer than the current MazdaSpeed sport springs so the ride will not be intolerable but then they probably won't be as good at the track as the JIC's etc., sounded like a decent street compromise which is where I lost immediate interest in them this is all by faded memory ...

BTW, that Part # has been unofficially listed as TBD since at least May/2004, also I recall it does not include the upper shock mounts front or rear, you reuse the OE ones

edit, my bad, it does include the upper front mounts, found it listed FS on a website for CN$3157

I checked, it's still not listed on the US parts system, not sure how it's showing up in CN ...

and here's the new 2006 MazdaSpeed catalog on the web in PDF format

Interesting.
Don't know why Canada has it, but it was there the other day.

Good info though TeamRX8. It actually sounds fairly good for what I want... firmer on the street, with a bit of adjustability for a couple of HPDE events per year.
I won't be using the RX-8 for lapping anymore as I have a dedicated Improved Touring Class 240SX now for that.
I'm not looking for anything too hard-core on the 8 now.

It beyond me how Mazda can't seem to come up with this item... even after several years. I too think it would be a nice upgrade....Mazda part, good fit, etc. If only someone could find one to see HOW good it might be and how much it would cost in cash$.

To be able to read MNAO's mind on soooooo many issues that seem to be totally inexplicable.... just makes me shake my head...

Before you buy the MS unit look around a little. The nice thing about the JICs and Tein Flexs is that you can set the ride height without compromising travel. Which is to say, they have two height adjustments - one for the perch, and one that shifts the whole damper/spring assembly relative to the mounting on the lower control arm. This keeps you out of the bump stops and gives nice, predictable handling.

it's just a marketing gimmick, if the shock length is set right in the first place you won't have an issue

Well, I was talking to the dealership again today about actually ordering these things.
But before I made a commitment, I wanted an ETA.
So, he put it into the system as if I was ordering it and it came back with an ETA of June.

So, price was ok, delivery is not so good, and Mazda's history seems to indicate they'll be a month or so late on any dates they provide.

So, not sure what I'm going to do now. I was leaning this direction, but wanted to do something before then. I have 2 schools I need the 8 for by June.
