Spring Install: Piston Rod Top Locknut Question
#1
![Question](https://www.rx8club.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I have a few questions:
Does the piston rod top locknut have to be removed / installed using an air powered impact wrench? Why does Tein say to replace with new nuts and not to reuse this part? Are there any other special tools required for a spring swap?
Thanks

By a mechanic's point of view, "Locknuts" should never be reuse by it's not gonna hurt if you use the old ones. Now, when it comes to removing it, make sure you use a spring compresor, if you use a powered tool is a lot better, but if you dont have one, you have to insert and allen wrench on the tip of the piston rod to hold it in place.
Good luck, and be SAFE!

I ran into the same thing you just did. I reused the old nuts however. It takes a little work w/ a wrench and an allel key, but it comes off.
let us know how long it took to do all 4 springs.
I was able to swap all for in 5 1/2 hours. I'm trying to toot my horn, I'm just curious..
have fun.
