Still Not Sure about Tire Pressure...

Hey guys...

IM a little bit confused about the PSI for the 8...
First off..the PSI wasn't listed on my stickers on the side of the doors...

Anyways i have a question.......
i know the PSI is suppose ot be 32...but...
I got my TPMS light today...well tonight..
I didn't drive the car much..jus warmed it up...
Now...the temp is 37F outside...

Now the question is...when would i Fix the Tire Pressure to 32psi???
If i do it at night..wouldn't the PSI increase by Morning??

When should i change the PSI???

tpms means one of the wheels is different pressure than others, like it got punctured. you should check to see if thats the case

I would drive it till the light goes off (after the tires warm up) and then bump it up 1 psi or 2

I just put on my winter wheels/tires. The front one had a bad sensor which was replaced. Then I was having the same problem you discribed. I simply went up to 35 psi at 45 degrees and the light went off. I started out at 32.5 psi. When cold the light would come on until the tires warmed up. Now at 35 psi, no light at all.

On pg 8-29,Owners manual:

NOTE
  • Always check tire pressure when tires are cold.
  • Warm tires normally exceed recommended pressures. Don't release air from warm tires to adjust the pressure.

Here's a good article on Air Pressure that answers some of your questions.

Considering the price of tires, I'd suggest investing in a good digital tire pressure guage if you don't already have one.

FYI, the recommended 32 PSI cold stock summer tire pressure is also listed in the Owner's Manual (page 10-7 for 2004).

For those of us with snow tires, they should be set to 36 PSI cold vs 32 PSI cold for the summer tires.

A cold pressure of 32 is correct. If you do an extensive amount of freeway driving, or are taking a long trip, a couple of extra PSI is considered a good idea. Although it should be safe, I would not go above 35 PSI since it can make the ride bouncy and somewhat uncomfortable. For snow tires, I can't say--we never need them here in L.A. (85 today--is it really December?)

why are winter tires set at 36? Does it matter what size tires you have? assuming that the winter tires are different than stock tires? Thanks for the education!!!

I have stock size (225/45-18) Dunlop Winter Sport M3's.

The RX-8 Owner's Manual on page 4-9 says snow tires should get 4.3 PSI more than the stock summer tires. I confirmed with Tire Rack that 36 PSI was what I should put in my M3's.

I'm not sure how this information applies to non-stock size tires ....... maybe someone else can shed some info there.

I just put new Pirelli PZero Nero M+S tires on my car - in a "plus zero" size increase (zero increase in wheel diameter, an increase in width and a decrease in aspect ratio) - size 245/40-18.

I started with 32 PSI and they seem fine although I just increased them to 35 to give them a touch more turn-in crispness until the flash and mold release compound wears off them (usually about 500 miles of driving). I'll stick with 32 PSI most likely - seems to work well.
