Stock brakes cast aluminum or cast iron?

Thought I'd ask as I'm sure someone knows for sure. I polished the brakes on my Camaro SS a few years ago to a mirror shine. Obviously those were aluminum. The RX8 looks to be cast iron but they're supposed to be lightweight. Which one is it?
Thanks

Well craps. I want to do something with the calipers. I know they'll get ugly quick. If you say they'll rust, I'm hesitant to sanding them down smooth to apply paint.

If you paint them, they won't rust. I personally think if they are going to be painted they should be sanded smooth. Looks a lot better.

even if they aren't sanded, the calipers still look better than stock when painted. I think it would look cool if it was polished though

That's what I did with the SS.... came out great. There's no way I'd paint them without them being smooth. I've seen the pictures on here and in person of painted cast calipers, I think it looks horrible... regardless of the color. You can sort of see the polished caliper in my old SS... I have better pics at home. Even next to the chrome wheels, they looks great. I had compliments on them constantly.

Powdercoat fills in a lot of the rough as-cast surface finish. Most shops can mask the areas that need to not be coated. It's an option. Just means completely disassembling your calipers and having the car off the road for a few days.

If you polish them smooth and apply a high temp clear coat you should be good to go. Please post pics of you do, I would love see it. Heck I may beat you too it, should look awesome on my Titanim Gray car.
