Well...........if you go to the top of the page and put in your vehicle info, then search for struts, it comes back with that same page but says "yes", and says "it's for the rear". Did you not do that?

I did. I got to this item by using a quote from Midas that says "OESpectrum Strut 71123".

Just wanted to be VERY sure before ordering.

Thanks

What happened to your rear struts? Both or just one? Just curious.

Every time I hit even the slightest pavement height change, or other bumps, the back end hits REALLY hard and makes a loud "thunk". Wheels also look to have a little negative camber to them.

I have another thread about my other "trials and tribulations" https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/decisions-decisions-need-help-226905/

For future reference, rockauto has some pretty decent prices as well as good service: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

Funny you mention RockAuto....I came across their site yesterday while searching for the belts I need. I saw that their price on the struts is just a few $$ cheaper than what I paid through Advance Auto, even though I got free shipping.

Will be keeping that site handy.

Funny you mention this. We must be reaching a meant-time-to-failure...

I have the identical behavior on my 2004. Any little bump and I basically bottom out in the rear (I think the right, specifically).

Is it worth doing all 4 at once just to do it? How hard (or even possible?) is it to do yourself?

You bought this part? :
Strut

Did you also get new springs, or just the strut? What's the going rate on strut replacement?

Add me to the list. My rear strut is failing as well.

Strangely....I took the car to another shop (not a dealer).

He walked out and looked around the car and gave it the "push" test. He said it looks the strut and springs are fine. To his credit, to be thorough he wanted to get it up on a lift but I didn't have time.

What else could cause the 8 to make a "CLUNK" sound in the rear over modest bumps if not a strut/spring?

Perhaps his hip-shot assessment simply wasn't accurate...

Sway (anti-roll) bar bushings and endlinks may also cause clunks.

That sounds like a smaller repair than strut and spring replacement...or am I just being optimistic?
