Strange brake noise...

Hi all,

No, this is not another brake squeal post

I seem to have a strange noise coming from my front right (drivers side in my case) wheel well. It is certainly quite audible when I engage the brakes, of course the car is still stationary.

It sounds like a dodgy spring creaking as it gets compressed?? hard to explain but hopefully you understand what I mean. It is certainly tied to me pressing the brake pedal and is coming from outside the car. I have driven the car a bit since the noise has appeared and it seems fine but I am quite wary. Could it be that my pads are nearly spent? I dont know if it is related but it has been bitterly cold recently and that is when I have started noticing the noise.

Has anyone experienced this??

Any thoughts? I will be taking it to Mazda for them to have a look but given past experience any additional info I can provide them will prove very useful.

I haven't had a chance to remove the wheel and take a proper look but will do hopefully this weekend, although I dont how much that will actually help

If I find anything I will let you know!!

Thanks in advance.

Maz

your pads have a slit between them naturally, they might have sometime lodged in them, best bet is to inspect.

BTW nice rims.

You mentioned the car is stationary. There is one sound that throws new owners off and that's the ABS self check when you first stop after starting and going above 5mph or so. You hear an loud click from the front. Well...good luck.

Thanks altspace definitely not the self check. That certainly did throw me when I first got the car...I can hear this noise as I pull up to my garage after an hour or so drive

To be honest it sounds like a spring being stretched sort of like the bicycle brakes where you have a brake line to a the caliper...anyway, i'll take a closer look over the weekend.
