Stuck rear rotor

Hey guys, any suggestions on getting a seized rear rotor off? I have the caliper completely off, and I've used a rubber mallet to strike the rear of the rotor. I've also used a regular hammer to lightly tap the center of the rotor to break the rust, but nothing's happening.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Off to paint the caliper in the meantime!

Thanks,

Well, still not budging. Maybe I'm still not hitting it hard enough, but I'm concerned that I'll distort the rotor. Should I hit it the front face as hard as I can with the rubber mallet? How hard can I hit it with the regular hammer?

On a positive note, I have two calipers painted now.

Rubber mallets don't work well...they don't give a hard enough shock load.....a brass or a piece of hard wood and a regular small sledge work best.

You can give it a pretty good whack and not hurt anything...

Well it took a while earlier today, but I did finally get the thing off. I had to spray some liquid wrench behind the dust shield and let it soak for a while.

Calipers look good though. I decided to go with blue calipers and black rotor hubs and dust shields. I'm especially happy covering up those rusty, nasty dust shields. They were dripping rust water all over the insides of my wheels (mainly the rear ones), and it looked bad.

I can get pics of the job if anyone requests it. I just haven't taken any yet.

I've never personally taking the rotor off my rx8 but i have done it on a honda accord...and im guessing you took off that little screw that you gotta hit to remove right?

Screw is only on front rotors.....and is only for assembly at the factory....doesn't do squat...except get seized in and make front rotor removal a b***h

Mine was stuck... there is a threaded hole close to the center of the rotor... find a bolt with the same threads, then using a ratchet, tighten the bolt. this will pop the rotor loose.... i spent hours trying to get mine off with a hammer, after i fuigured this out, took 10 seconds to pop it loose.

I saw the hole you're referring to, but I couldn't find a spare bolt to fit. Once I switched to a heavier hammer, it came off... after a good bit of whacking. I'm sure the other method is much easier!
