Tire Feathering

So, my rear got a lot of tire feathering, the problem is, it only seems like only my car has it. I brought it to the dealer and they said that it's normal but every other cars . Basically, my rear tires are being worn out like crazy from the inside, it's only on my rear tires though. I am running 18x8.5 with an offset of 38 on a completely stock suspension setuo. The tires are Toyo Proxes T1R 225/40/18. I only have 12k miles on the tires and I don't abuse it by any means (Besides the occasional burst of speed to redline to prevent carbon buildup ). Any response would be great.

You need an alignment. Set rear toe to zero.

Would the dealer be able to do this? What would the dealer charge me? Also, would I be able to do this myself?

you will have to take it to the dealer. i doubt you can do it your self. your looking around 80 bucks i think and thats for all for conners. if you gonna get it done might want to get the front done at the same time. its worth it

I see. My front tires are wearing evenly but my rear are feathering from the inside. $80 for all four, I don't need the front... I'm hoping that in only doing the rear, it'll cost a bit less. I wonder how the handling characteristics will change after having this performed. Anybody have an idea?

EDIT: Do you think this might be a warranty issue as well? I mean, my setup is completely stock and it's cambered weird... so wouldn't the dealer fix it as a warranty fix since it completely wore out my rear tires?

Yes you need an alignment. Yes you have to pay for it. Pretty common on rwd sports cars. This is why I dont like to have a stagered setup(I can rotate tires).

I see, and ONLY the dealership can do this? What if I bring it to JustTires or Pep Boys? Would they be able to perform the same thing? I would imagine that they would be cheaper than the stealership.

Whoa, you changed your avatar!
This is my second tire rotate. I just never really noticed the feathering until yesterday when I rotated them.

So basically, if I get an alignment, it would correct my weird feathering problem? Would that also fix the camber issue where the rear tires are tilted that causes the feathering?

you cannot undo what has been done.. but it will lessen it..

if you rotate enough it will even out..

do it soon.

I rotated my tires already. What I'm asking is there a way to prevent future/further feathering on my tires? If I perform the alignment, would that prevent future feathering? I just came back from looking at my car right now and I notice that the rear tires are barely slanted... I don't know what camber it is but I believe that this is the root of the feathering. Thanks for helping me out everybody, especially you swoope

Yeah get a alignment at your dealer. When I got my tsw's I went to my dealer the next day and got a alignment. If its still doing it after the alignment, coilovers!

You should have four wheel alignments done as regular preventive maintenance. You can't see when alignment is off by a little bit until the evidence shows up on your tires in the form of a wear pattern.

You don't have to bring it to your dealer for an alignment. Other places like JustTires is fine. My dealership doesn't have a laser alignment (more precise), which I prefer. Also, the factory specs have a pretty big tolerance, so it's not surprising if your alignment is a little off if you get it from the dealership.
