tire size question

my girlfriend has a base model 2004 rx8 . the tires that are on it now are the oem potenzas 225/55R16's . i can get used (less then 3000 miles on them)fuzion HRI's 225/60R16's for $25 a tire . will they be ok to put on? will it effect the TPMS ? and the HRI's weigh more , how will this effect the driving?

thanks!

I doubt the size difference will cause rubbing or anything mechanical interference issues.

Go here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Enter new and old tire sizes. Decide if you can live with your speedometer being off by the amount it says.

As for how the heavier tire will affect handling, you won't notice it unless you are pretty experienced with that specific car in competition situations.

You may notice a difference between the performance level of the HRi and the OE Potenzas. Which of the 5.4 x 10^34 versions of Potenza did they put on the base auto RX-8? Remember that the HRi is an "all-season" tire. If the old tires are a performance summer tire then you will be losing grip moving to the Fuzions.

I had the HRi on my old '99 Passat 1.8T and found them to be adequate in everything except snow. I wouldn't normally consider with them on my '8 but at $25 each, it would be a tough decision if I were hard up for cash.

Yah, you're going to notice a difference between the HRi and RE040. The HRi will probably be better when it's raining and the temp is under 50F but in all other cases, you'll lose grip.

It'll work but it's not ideal. If you can afford good tires, don't buy cheap ones. If you can't, well, beggars and choosers.
