Tire Suggestions??
Getting ready for a track day June 13.......Got a nail in the sidewall of my rt front tire today
What would be a good performing, wearing alternative in a tire that I can drive and track?
I might as well buy 4 new ones in 245-40-18 if I need to buy at least 2 to replace the stock 8090 Dunlops

Right now Tire Rack is running a really good special with Kumho Ecsta MX's in that size at $138 a piece. From all reports that is a very good single season all around tire. Or go to www.edgeracing.com as they have the new Falken RT-615's & Toyo T1R's out now for our cars. Brand new tires that are supposed to be outstanding for the track & everyday driving (I have the previous generation Toyo T1s, & I love them).

He is at the opposite end on the Continent almost.
My buddies Boxter has S03's on it and he loves them. My other buddy has Pilot Sport 2's on his 911. Both are real nice and pricey. I'd go with the Falken's given the time you have to get them mounted.

The 615's are my 1st choice at present but I just cant get the avon's out of my mind. I will go only to a 235/40. I havent ran either yet just hear a lot and how others are satishfied! I want to keep a 8 inch rim and may even drop to a 7.5.

How can you beat the Kumho special?
Only way to beat them is to buy a longer wearing tire and then not take it to the track. Due to the fact that a better tire will cost you alot more for a little more wear I would stay with the Kumho's.
By the way do you think you can actually tell the difference between a tire that is rated 8.9 vs 9.1 in dry pavement?

I don't base my tire purchases on 'ratings'...I base my tire purchases on 'how they perform at the track and around town'.
S03s...sticky at the track, and good for 30+K miles. Doesn't get much better than that, imo.
