Tire Warranty and Tire Repair Kit: Mazda playing us for a fool?
This topic may have been discussed before, but I'm honestly too lazy to do a search right now... Sorry! :p
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but in the original paperwork that comes with our cars, there's a pamphlet on the warranty for the tires. In that document, it indicates that using a tire repair kit (i.e., fix-a-flat) voids the warranty. But, wait, isn't that exactly what comes standard with the 8?? So if something happens on the road and we don't have the optional spare tire kit, is BFGoodrich saying we're SOL???

Even though tyres are wear and tear items, the warranty is to cover against manufacturing defects.

You don't have BF Goodrich tires. Not from Mazda, anyway.
Warranties are not magical get out of jail free cards. As mentioned, they have all sorts of exclusions. Bridgestone does NOT warrant the RX-8 tires for road hazards. You pick up a nail, screw, cut, etc., you're on your own - you have no tire warranty for that. If your OEM tires develop a vibration from belt shift, the tread separates, etc, then you have a warranty claim. However - if you've had a tire patched/repaired, your warranty would be invalidated anyway, so it doesn't matter if patched or you use the fix-a-flat, you'd still be out of luck for a subsequent manufacturing defect claim.
Read the fine print (and do the forum searches)! Don't be so lazy.

Gordon
