Tired of the stock brakes

I've had my screeching brakes "fixed" at 12k miles and now at 20k, the "metro-bus effect" is back again.

I have a real hard time accepting that it's a property of "sport brakes" as people like to call them when I see vettes, BMWs, ferraris (I live near a dealer), and mercedes sports cars all braking without sounding like an old garbage truck.

So if I were to replace the brakes outright, do you guys have a kit that is popular here? List of considerations in order of priority:

1) No screeching (I didn't even know I had to MAKE this statement until the 8)
2) Performance
3) Low dust
4) Cost

Recommendations?

Have you tried aftermarket pads yet? I swapped out the stockers for Hawk HPS and my brakes are silent, with much less dust. That's an option that's a wee bit cheaper than replacing the whole brake system. I did racingbrake rotors up front too because my factory units were warped, but I doubt that has any effect on sound.

How does the performance compare with the stock ones and how much do they cost for all 4 wheels?

I have the Hawk HPS pads also. They still create reasonable amounts of dust, but stop at least as well as stock pads. Never had any squeeking, but I never had any squeeking with the stock pads either. I use the HPS pads on the track at pretty good pace with R compond tires and they hold up pretty well. (in combination with Super Blue brake fluid)

I know a racer that uses EBC pads claiming they work great and create less dust than Hawk pads, but I have not personally tried them yet. They will be the next set I try out.

Either ones you will be pleased with. If they still squeek the problem is with your car and not the pads. Did you check if the squeeler bar is touching or incorrectly installed? (if that is possible???)

You need ceramic brake pads not Hawks.

Use Porterfield brakes look up on net.

The performance of the Hawks was slightly improved over stock. The stock pads seem very grabby at first but then pushing harder yields less of a result. The Hawks on the other hand...I don't think they actually have shorter stopping distances. But they do have a better feel, IMO. It's more linear, ie pushing the brake pedal with 20 lbs. of force will yield twice the stopping of 10 lbs., which yields twice the stopping of 5 lbs...etc.

Cost...I don't remember, check Tire Rack or whoever, I want to say it was $40-ish a pair? They were about half the cost of the ceramic pads I was looking at. (Of course, either option is way cheaper than a whole new system) Plus RacingBrake guarantees their rotors won't warp with the HPS pads, that was a big thing for me. The stock brakes were fine, I just didn't want the hassle of doing everything again in a few months.

Maybe it's just cool to say "I have Ceramics!"

Axis Ulltimates are fantastic for light track use, and great on the street.
