I have heard good things about the Dunlop Star Specs. People in autocross are moving to them from the Yokohamas because they handle heat better.

Note, the Direzza DZ101 is not the Z1, nor the Z1 Star Spec.

As for the selections listed by the OP- if this is simply a choice of Ultra High Performance tire for daily/ spirited driving, you can choose any of the above.

If your on stock wheels get 245/40 all around.
The Falken RT 615's have phenomenal dry grip,
but suck in the rain. My old bald S03's were far superior in the rain.

If you want some tires that rock both in the dry and wet

Dunlop Z1 Star Specs rock, they are simply amazing in both dry and wet, but cost about $25-30more.

the RT 615's cost $141/each

but for the street both are overkill.. have a set of the dunlops star specs on order...

if it is just the street i would think the op would like a tire that lasts longer that 12 to 15k miles..

i would say that his selection in the first post is pretty damn good.

and i do agree the 245 40 18 is the way to go..

beers

I ran a set of Falken 451's for over 25000 miles...I really had no complaints with them. They were as great in the rain as they were in dry conditions.

yes,

but it you are not going to use them to there full potential you are wasting money.. and you cant use the 615 or the star specs to the max on the street.

why would you get those tires to waste the potential? ego?

i have been running kumho spts for the last two sets of tires. great tire for the steet, really, really good in the rain..

did fine at a track day, but i am learning tracks with radial tires. that should set you back a bit.

i have been fighting this same question for the last week.

i was looking at
star spec
615
the new xs kumho
the old mx kumho

ended up going with the star spec.. i hope i made the right choice. but i am doing track days.. and know that tire wear is going to be happening..

btw, thx south fl for the help in the past.. really sorry i missed the pp 02 deal.

beers

I drive a lot, almost every other day I go for "sprinted" drives. I enjoy this car very much, I would not be able to have this much fun on regular tires. I also track and drift my car frequently, drive to and from the track. To me it would be a huge hassle to change wheels every time, and that's a lot more money for another set of wheels and tires. I keep it simple just get in the car and drive.

and imput. sorry i feel strong about this. spirited drives are what 70% ?

you dont need to get to the 615 level to do that. not safe on the street. pissing away money..

but hey if you have money to **** away. the 888s are sweet..

For what the OP wants, I would have said the Toyo's. Have em, like em a ton. Probably wouldn't pick em as a dual use track/street though.

Swoope,
I have heard great things about the star spec. Those and the old Kuhmo's I used for street/track would have been what I put on for dual use. Price matters when you are gonna tear em up.

we will find out in early nov.

it was a hard choice between the star specs and the also new kumho xs.

but to the the real point of the thread. the op has great choices made. and might have to deal with a bit of winter.

the stuff we are talking about is just fluff...

trying to respect the thread!
