Get snow tires if you are going to drive in the snow. See the first sticky in this form.

If you've been reading here about winter tires, then you know the answer to your question - winter tires make a HUGE difference in the capabilities of the vehicle. The performance summer tires are useless, as you found - but that's entirely the fault of the tires. With winter tires, the RX-8 does very well. This is now my second winter, and I run Toyo Garit HT 215/55-17 winter tires. No problems whatsoever, and I take it skiing in the Banff Rockies, etc.

There are a huge number of threads about winter tires now - do some reading, and then if you want to drive in winter conditions, get your order in quick! TireRack is already sold out of some models in RX-8 sizes...

Regards,
Gordon

If you're in an area that doesn't get a lot of snow, or, like my area, does get snow but they take great care of the roads, then an ultra-high-performance all-season tire will also do the trick.

But, yes, the stock tires are worse than useless in snow.

There's a reason we have about 200 threads on winter tires here...
