TPMS Important?

I'm buying a set of winter tires and wheels. Do i really need the tire pressure monitoring system? My car will be fine without it right, it'll just throw a light in the dash i'm assuming?

yep,

it would annoy the crap out of me.. a second set of sensors is not that much.

make sure you check the pressure every couple of weeks..

cool thanks. I can live with it. I check tire pressure very regularly as i've done with all my cars in the past. So i shouldn't have a problem. It's only for those lazy people that don't take care of their car. The kind of people you hope didn't previously own y our used car.

for those that don't take care of their car and don't check their tire pressure, yes it is convenient for them. but there's also an added sense of relief for me since i like to drive with the windows open when it's warm out and there are always those times where the sound coming off the barriers sounds like a low tire or you get in a groove on the interstate and it pulls you a little bit and i used to pull over to make sure my tires were okay.

now i know that in those instances i can relax more and know that my light will tell me if there is something wrong in between checking my tire pressure each weekend.

It's so important that Canadian cars don't even come with the system!

Anyone have a TPM sending unit go out or have a low battery. Mine went off today before the car moved then went off after driving a while then was lit again after a short stop. I checked the pressures and no problem. Low battery in one of the units???

The TPMS sensors come with a lithium battery that is rated to last 10 years. It is more likely a defective unit. Your dealership should have a way to test the individual sensors.

Not necessarily. I check mine regularly, but had a slow leak one week (<1 lb/ day)and didn't notice it until the TPMS came on. Short money for a nice safeguard in my book.

Now, I really wish there was a dash pressure readout, per tire, such as my Jeep Patriot has.

thats what i would like as well...i dont trust the tpms cause it just blinks all the time, no matter how i adjust the tire preasure it just blinks so F that lol.

i could never tell if its working or not, only one time i seen it work and it went solid and made a beep noise...when i pulled over to check my tires i saw my preasure went down to the 20's and noticed a nail in the tire....that was good to know...

i think tpms are nice when they work, but to work well it has to be more than a blinking light. the car really should have had an lcd screen to tell you what tire is affected and psi readings...would have been nice to have. hopefully in the future the 8, or everyother car for that matter will have onboard diagnostics with an LCD screen that can warn you of tire preassure, low oil, low coolant and all the other neat features audi and bmw has.
