Trouble w/ OE tires. Anyone else?
Here's a problem I had recently. I'm betting you guys will think my solution was stupid, but I'm gonna post it anyway. I'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem.
So I got my car about two weeks ago. Sunday morning I notice the tire pressure warning light is on and sure enough the right-rear tire has a big roofing nail sticking out of it. Unfortunately, it was strategically placed just beyond the tread in the un-patchable sidewall area. Whatta bummer. So I go looking for an identical replacement Dunlop Sport 8090. Nobody has this tire in stock! Not even the dealer. I got a couple quotes for a 1-2 day delivery and $300 to replace. Now I know that I could have probably found the tire SOMEWHERE, but to me losing 1-2 days of driving and paying $300 for a crappy OE tire that doesnt even seem that great to start with is a crock of ****. And what about the next time one of them pops? I went to america's tire and got 4 yokos with lifetime free replacement for $750. Did I make a moron move or was it just a crappy situation?
Let me know what you think...

save the other three and see if you can pick up a one in the fs section...
when the yokos go you got you next set... or you can try to sell in the fs section to recoup some of your money..
sound like a bit of bad luck...

Seems like a lot of us have been getting nails in the Dunlops recently. Which Yokohamas did you get? For $750, it sounds like you got the AVS ES100. The OEM Dunlops are actually very good tires, so it might be worth it to buy another one and keep it as a replacement set since you won't get fair value for 3 used Dunlops even though I know some are interested in buying just one (I am longer in that group). For what it's worth, though the AVS ES100 are good tires, I feel the OEM Dunlops are superior.
